You don't remember much of anything. You're not sure you ever have. The only thing you're confident of is the name of your lamb doll, Lulu. You don't know your own name, exact age (though it's probably around 5-7), where you came from, or what you're doing in this pasture.

You were laying down, stomach up, staring at the midday sky, it was bright and blue and the air was fresh. You might have just woken up, or you may have been there watching the cotton candy clouds pass by for hours.

Your leg started to itch and you instinctively sat up to scratch at the spot. Your hand touched something small which moved further up your leg.

"AAAH!" You screamed and hopped up to your feet, looking to see what you had touched.

Still on your leg was a small, brown, jumping spider. You screamed again and shook your leg, desperately trying to get it off. You felt the urge to cry, an urge that you couldn't hold down because oh my god there's a spider on your leg and it won't come off-

In your spider-caused frenzy, the arachnid flung off of your leg and onto the ground, skittering off. It took you a moment or two to actually realize that it was gone, but when you did you could only stand there, alone with your tears and runny nose. You didn't want to lay down again, you didn't want another spider crawling on you.

You felt as though something, someone, was missing.

"Lulu!" You gasped as you remembered your best friend, looking around for her frantically.

The last you knew, she was on the ground adjacent to you, but you couldn't see her anywhere in the clearing you had made. In every direction was tall grass, much taller than you.

You whined a little bit, worried that Lulu had somehow been stolen off while you were distracted. "Lulu? Lulu, where are you?"

You hoped that she would answer, though that was extremely unlikely. The search went on for a while. Midday turned to afternoon and then to evening. You had re-traced your steps, triple-checked every possible hiding spot, hell, you had even braved the tall grass, but all to no avail.

You were tired, tired and hungry. Hot tears made their way to your eyes and you did your best not to let them fall, but your worry and sadness and frustration were just too big.

Before the first tears were able to leave your eyes, a low growling sounded from behind you, from the tall grass.  Scared, you jumped and started running in the opposite direction into the woods. Your thoughts ran even faster than you did, what is that? why is it out here, i thought i was alone?  i don't like this i don't like this-

You tripped over a tree's root and fell face-first, hard. Pawsteps sounded from a short distance away. Whatever that thing was, it was chasing after you.

You got back up, trying to ignore the pain. As you ran, the woods became thicker, thorns and bushes and branches coming from every direction, eventually completely blocking your path. You turned around, looking for any other way to get out. There was none.

You heard a muffled bark, then more paw steps. a dog? i hope it's not a mean dog, please god i hope it's not mean

The dog entered your line of sight, running at you full speed. There was nowhere to go, you looked left, right, then at the dog again and noticed that it was holding something in its mouth. The dog was getting closer and closer. Whatever it was holding looked like-

Lulu! That dog had Lulu! You shouted at the sight of your best friend, which scared the dog a little.

It was about 10 feet away from you at this point. It dropped into play position and growled, tail wagging lightly. oh, it was a happy growl, not a mean growl, you thought.

"Hi, puppy!" The dog was certainly not a puppy, but that's just what came out of your mouth.

The dog wagged its tail harder and trotted up to your location, sniffing you. His head reached to right about under your chin.

"Puppy, you have my doll and I really want her back, okay?"

He looked up at you and twisted his head. You reached your hand for his mouth in a moment of suspense, but the dog let go of Lulu with little resistance. You let out a long sigh of relief, hugging your Lulu tight and assessing her injuries.

The dog seemed to become uninterested in you, and instead wandered off in a different direction, a path that only a dog would see. The sky was getting darker by the minute, and you figured that if this dog had somewhere to go, you wanted to go there too.

And so you went like that until evening turned to night, following this strange dog. You started to doubt that this stray had any plan in mind at all, seeing as there was no obvious destination or clearer path on the way.

Just as your doubts started to really bother you, a light shone from the other edge of the forest. a city? The dog started picking up the pace and jogged towards the lights. There really was a destination! Man, you couldn't think of the last time you were in a city. You wondered if they would have food there, or maybe some apple juice.

In your excitement (and partially through your stomach), you forced your weary legs to walk faster, ignoring the scrapes and bruises you had gathered along the journey.

Soon enough, you and the dog had reached the town. "Look at all this space, Puppy!"

Puppy, as you decided to keep on calling him, barked and wagged his tail.

You smiled. You think that you were going to be just fine here.
