"(Y/N)?" He coughed out his little sibling's name, the air around him was smoke. He was on the ground, knocked to his stomach by the blast behind them."(Y/N), can you hear me?"
The air cleared in front of him, and revealed a small body, splayed out in an uncomfortable position. He felt his heart drop. No. No no no no no please no, he thought desperately, trying to get himself up onto his feet.
He managed to stumble over to his sibling, falling down to his knees next to them. He turned them over and gently shook them, "(Y/N), wake up."
A moment passed. The elder brother held his breath. Then the little body in his arms shook with a cough, and their eyes flickered open.
"My arm hurts..." Their voice was small and hoarse, but such a relief to hear.
He let out a heavy breath mixed with airy laughter. He examined their arm closer, it was in okay condition, bruised and lightly burned but nothing that wouldn't heal with care.
"I know, I know, little one," He said, putting on his best reassuring voice, "It'll be just fine. Let's go home."
"Yeah. Let's go home."
He gathered his strength and stood up, doing his best to not react to the pain in his legs. He carried his little sibling with whatever force allowed him to and started the trek to the house.
The bomb was not old, it had been planted there, on his family's property by someone. He was determined to figure out who and how they had been allowed to hurt his family.
--
He swung the door open, which was unexpectedly unlocked. He felt a strange, wary feeling overcome him. He put (Y/N) down, telling them to stay where they stood until he said otherwise.
All of the lights were off, all except one: the basement. He took a big breath, readying himself for whatever was to happen. He started to creep down the stairs.
"Mother?" He called, voice wavering only slightly, "Are you there?"
The voice that called back was not his mother, but his old childhood friend.
"Tord?"
----
The morning light had shown straight through the windows and into your face, and you quietly blinked awake. You glanced around, taking in your surroundings once again. It'd been about a week since you arrived, though you still didn't think you'd ever be able to get used to waking up in a house.
You felt a weight at your feet. It was Puppy curled up on the other side of the sofa. You smiled as he snored softly. You had Lulu by your side, wrapped in your arm. Out the window, you could see leaves falling and an idea popped into your head.
The boys had gotten you cleaned up and taken you out shopping for new clothes, including cold gear. You figured you could put them to use and go make leaf piles today. Yeah, that sounded like a good plan. You could have a hot drink when you got cold, then head back out as soon as you warmed up again.
You sat up, gently pulled your feet up to your body so as not to disturb Puppy, and headed to grab your stuff. You changed out of pajamas and into your warm clothes, including your new favorite colored jacket and striped gloves.
"Oh!" You exclaimed to yourself, "Almost forgot."
You placed Lulu down right next to the sleeping Puppy, where she would be safe and warm, "There you go."
You hurried out the door to see Tord leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette. His eyes widened as he saw you, surprised at first.
"Hi!" You said, "I'm gonna make a really big leaf pile!"
