This is the first draft for the rewrite.
Will have some spoilers for the first chapter, so beware.
I'm also writing this again because I got some feedback from a friend ^^
(Ps. This is an edgy backstory for Marcus btw 👀)

Lilypads floated on the surface of crystal-clear water.  Through the gaps, I watched as the fish swam in all directions.  Each had different colours, shapes, and sizes; shining beautifully as the blazing sun hit their scales. Like jam on toast, flowers and long grass covered the fields with gangs of hills surrounding me. Alone I was. Away from today's hardships, I was safe from the judgement of my peers. I stood at the edge, moving my finger in a circular movement as ripples started to form.

A hand came out of nowhere and threw worms into the pond.  I looked up to notice a girl.  She wasn't ordinary at all. Her skin was a saturated light green with hair-like grass connecting to her scalp; the bottom of her limbs — feet and arms — had rings of leaves attached; and finally, she wore blue overalls with a long-sleeved yellow undershirt.

"Sup Marcus? Got some delicious food for the fishies," she lifted up a bucket and smiled, making her bioluminescent eyes stand out.

"Nice job Crys! You're a natural at hunting for worms!" I gave her a thumbs up.

"Thanks!" she awkwardly giggled a bit.

My hands reached into the bucket and grabbed a handful of worms. They felt slimy and slippery with dirt all over.  I didn't mind though: this wasn't my tucker anyways.

A fish snatched a worm from another's grasp.  I said to myself — "That's greedy!" — while giggling at its actions. They all had their own personalities; some were more gluttonous while others struggled to keep their food...
Memories of school flooded my brain. Nobody would leave me alone.  I was an outcasted black sheep pestered by wolves constantly.

It was Unfair...

She tapped my shoulder and gave a childish grin — revealing a gap in her two front-teeth.

"Wanna see something cool?"

"Sure!" I responded enthusiastically.

Crysanthe kneeled and placed both of her hands on the ground.

"You might have to move back a bit."

I did as she instructed.  The ground shook then bam!  Giant sunflowers sprouted from the soil; pollinating the air.  I sneezed a bit.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry..." Crys' hands covered her facial features.

Distracted by the sunflowers, I was in awe and unaware of her concern.  Snapping back, I finally noticed.

"Huh?" I thought of what to say, "Oh. Nothing to apologise about Crys-Sis. What else can you do?"

Knowing her, she chased me; growing flora everywhere to try and catch me.  My legs moved as fast as a machine.

"Ha! You'll never catch me, you slowpoke!"

A mischievous grin spread across Crys' face.
"You sure about that?"

Two lights beamed stronger; vines wrapped around her arms and legs as she levitated in the air, casting a shadow over the whole field. Through unintentional fear, I wanted to take back my words.
