So the man who was in charge of my capture was named Bow Runner. Well I already don't like him from that. I can already tell that this is going to be hard for both of us, me and Bow Runner.
Bow Runner escorted me to the prisoner's cage. I hated this cage. Why did I have to stay here? I know I'm the tribe's prisoner, but why put a child in here? Shouldn't they have a better place for children?
I sat there on the ground, doing nothing until I was served lunch. Before lunch, people would walk by me, staring at me. Some would look at me in disgust and hatred. Others would look at me with compassion like Chief Wolf Eyes. There were a few children younger than me that started toward the cage. There parents snatched them before they ever made it to the cage.
Bow Runner came to the cage when I least expected it. "Come on. Get up. The Chief wants me to make sure you get exercise," Bow Runner commanded. I got up. Bow Runner handed me some fish to eat. Then he told me we needed to go. To my surprise Bow Runner didn't tie my hands. He put his hands on my shoulders and nudged me out of the cage. He never let go of me. I hated to be escorted around like this. Why can't they just let me go, and live in freedom.
Bow Runner showed me around their camp. First he took me to a man whose name was Eagle Wings. Eagle Wings was a very old man. His eyes looked sad as he told me some stories about the Wolf Tribe. After that Bow Runner took me to see some horses. "Pick one to ride. Chief Wolf Eyes wanted me to let you ride which ever one you liked," Bow Runner said with a frown. I guess he didn't like me as much as the Chief. I picked a beautiful black horse to ride. He was as gentle as a lamb. I have never been on a horse so gentle as him. Bow Runner said his name was Alo which means spiritual guide. I rode for a long time. Bow Runner rode beside me the whole time. He rode on his white horse named AneMy meaning, she is superior. Although he tied a rope on both horses to keep us together, I had a lot of fun.
After we rode, Bow Runner took me back to the cage, where Chief Wolf Eyes was standing. We talked for a while. Then he told me that I am going to sleep in his mother's tipi. When he said that I began to smile, and Bow Runner's looked angry. I guess he didn't like the Chief decision.
Bow Runner and Chief Wolf Eyes took me to his mother's tipi. The Chief's mother was preparing me a place to sleep, when we got there. Bow Runner stayed outside the tipi while the Chief took me in. The Chief's mother had compassion just like her son. I wander why they have compassion for me.For supper I had fish and bear, grizzly bear to be exact. It was really good. The Chief's mother makes very delicious food.
After supper she told me a story about how their tribe was started. She told me that she had adopted Chief Wolf Eyes. She found him in the woods when he was a baby. A wolf was about to have him for lunch. Luckily she had her spear with her and she killed the wolf. That was why she named the baby Wolf Eyes. She also said that they had that wolf that she killed for supper. Then she kissed me good night. "Oh by the way, my name is Morning Flower." "My name is Red Squirrel," I said. "I know," Morning Flower said.
