Episode 17: contemporary contempt

Okay everyone so this year at regionals every team will have to compete a contemporary routine. Michelle and I have narrowed it down to this group of dancers to compete for a spot on that dance. Because you all have different strengths we're gonna pair you up to see who's best for the dance.

The pairs are
Kingston and Ozzy
Piper and Davis
Richelle and summer
Harper and Kenzie.

You guys are going to perform your best freestyle for Noah and he'll be in charge of picking who's on the contemporary dance. May the best dancers win. Good luck.
I'm excited to go against Kenzie because she makes me dance my best. I really want her to win as her friend but I'm going to win this. Kenzie is great at hip hop but contemporary is more my style.

I walk into the locker room to grab my drink because I don't exactly have enough time to go and grab a juice. When I see Ozzy going through Kingston's bag.
What are you doing? I ask and he flinched a little.
Kingston is telling me too many made up stories about school and I just want to know if he really has it under control or if he's putting the team at risk.
See look at this, letters about him skipping, horrible grades and he may not be allowed back. This is what I mean. I know Ozzy wants to help but I'm not sure Kingston is going to be happy with this.
Look I know Kingston isn't going to be happy with this but I know you just want to help. I think you should just talk to him.
Yeah I will. Thank you. He stands up and puts Kingston's bag back and walks over to me and pecks my lips.
Guess we better get back to rehearsal.
Guess so.
He grabs my hands and pulls me with him back to studio A.

We are now performing the freestyle duets to Noah to see who is on the contemporary dance. I really hope it's me. I love Kenzie but I want this.
So Summer and Richelle, your up first.
Richelle has got a lot of power moves but Summer is dancing with a lot of heart. This is definitely going to be a tough decision for Noah.
If it was me I would put Richelle in the dance. She's done tricks I've never even seen before, she's incredible.

Ozzy and Kingston are good, Ozzy is really improving and I'm proud of him but Kingston skipping school is making him an amazing dancer. I really don't know who Noah is going to pick.

Piper just did her Ariel. Which is great except the look on Davis's face told me something else was going on because the Davis I know would've thrown and Ariel or 2 in that dance.

Kenzie and I are going head to head, she's a great dancer and is really killing it, but I have been working so hard and I think I'm doing really well. I'm making sure everything I'm doing is perfect, Noah looks pretty impressed so hopefully what I'm doing is enough.

Alright let's gather around. First I just want to say you all did absolutely amazing and freestyle is one of the hardest things to do and you all did great, but what's going to bring this contemporary routine to the next level is not only to have great technique but to have feeling and passion. It's one of the most important things in contemporary.
The dancers that will be in the routine are... Summer. Nice work on your emotion. I put my hand on Richelle's shoulder for comfort because I know how much she wanted this.
Richelle as usual your technique was impeccable but I just didn't feel the connection or the emotion.
Next on the dance, Piper. Nice job on your Ariel and Harper. Congratulations, you did amazing.
Thank you! I can't believe I actually made it I'm now in the hip hop and contemporary routine. I'm so excited.
And last Kingston. Looks like your getting a lot stronger.
I put my hand on Ozzy's back. He's really trying he's hardest and nobody seeing that.
He just grabs my hand squeezes it and slowly let's go and walks out of studio A.
Kingston looks at me and I just look away. He's been really rude to Ozzy lately, I don't know what's gotten into him but I don't like it. Until he picks his act up I don't want to talk to him.

I walk into the locker rooms because I wanna see how Ozzy's doing.
Hey. I say kind of quietly.
Hey. He says back sadly.
Are you okay? I ask while I sit down and face him.
Not really, I haven't made a single regionals dance and Kingston and I are barely talking and I'm stuck on what to do about his grades. He says finally turning to face me.
Okay I think you should tell Emily and Michelle.
Then he will hate me.
So what. He'll hate you for a few days and then you'll be back to being best friends again. This is for the team. He can't be a better dancer if he's kicked off A-troupe.
Okay I'll talk to them. I'm not sure when but I will.

Of course. I love helping you. I say as I smile at him.
Now let's go. I want a juice. I say as I kiss his cheek and hold out my hand.
He starts smiling and takes my hand in his.

I'm glad I got to put a smile on his face. Hopefully Michelle and Emily find out about Kingston. He picks up his grades and everything goes back to normal.
