Chapter 53 the proposal

HARRY'S POV

"I want to ask you something." I said again once I knew Clara was out of ear shot. We all moved to the living room, everyone sitting, I was let to pace back and forth. "This question is more towards Rosalie and Emmett, but essentially everyone else as well."

"So spit it out! I may have eternity but my window of caring is slamming shut soon." Garrett said, wrapping an arm around Kate as he did so. She smacked him with an electric hand and he cursed loudly as she did so. "Sorry." He dipped his head low and looked away.

"I want to ask for your permission to take Clara's hand in marriage." I said quickly, suddenly fifteen pairs of eyes in varying forms of brown snapped up to me. One after one, as the question hung in the air, smiles crept on to faces.

"When do you plan on doing it?" Asked Rosalie, leaning forward curiously, Emmett soon to follow.

"Tomorrow. Right here. In the living room." I stated the facts and got a huge amount of smiles.

"We give our blessing." Rose said.

"I'll only give it if you promise to treat her right. Make sure she is never in trouble." Garrett said.

"I promise I will keep her out of trouble for the rest of my eternity." I said determined and strong.

"Then I bless this marriage." He gripped Kate's hand and smiled at her happily.

At that moment Clara strolled in drinking one of her smoothies, when all our eyes flashed to her, she froze, her big eyes darting from one to the next, then landing on me. She swallowed her drink hard and spoke. "Did I do something?" She asked.

"No." Rosalie said laughing lightly to clear the air. "Honey, when you finish that please go to bed, you've been through a lot. You need your rest."

"Okay." She said as we walked to the love seat and sat down, she leaned against me, and the rest of the night she was cuddled up against me and we told stories and made jokes, just solidifying our terms as a family, even if Clara didn't know yet.

---

I waved goodbye as Clara was dragged away to a shopping spree in Seattle with my sister Aurora, and my stepsisters Jessa, Misery, and Clace.

They got back at noon, and after Clara ate lunch and only had another one of her smoothies left (I swear she is addicted to these things), all the Cullen's and Denali's entered the living room, I stepped forward, dragging her to the centre of the room, I took her smoothie and set it on the glass coffee table, taking both her hands and looking deep in her eyes.

"Clara. From the moment I met you, you where amazing, you made my stilled heart want to beat again. Every touch made me feel like I was on fire. We bumped into each other at school that first day, both of us so extremely lost." She laughed a little, and I let go of one of her hands, reaching into my pocket and playing with the velvet box. "Everything after that was magical. You figured me out, faster that what I would have expected anyone to, we fell in love, spent the better part of freshman year doing things I would rather not say in front of any man in the room." Her face reddened, and I heard a growl from one of her family members. "Don't worry, guys it was all PG."

"It better have been E, for everyone." I heard Emmett growl out, and Clara snorted with laughter.

"My point is, through everything we did, even after I left, all I could keep thinking about was wanting to spend the rest of my eternity with you." Tears blossomed in her eyes, and I dipped down to one knee, holding her hand ever so carefully, as if she was made of the finest crystal, and even the slightest dust mote would shatter her. "Clara, will you be my everything? Will you spend he rest of our eternity together, loving each other with more harmony than even the angle's choirs?" Tears rolled down her face as she smiled. "Will you marry me Clara Mellow-Cullen?" She had recently taken up a hyphenated last name to honor both of her lives before and after Cody.

"What kind of questions are those you big dummy? Of course." Her voice was shaking with joy, and I slid the princess cut diamond and sliver ring onto her finger, then stood up and hugged her, but she pulled me into a kiss that surprised me, as we had never kissed in front of her family.

"Okay you two, break it up." Edward scolded this time.

"Forever?" Clara asked, looking in my eyes with her own twinkling ones.

"Forever." I whispered and hugged her tight. "Forever and ever."

__________

Happiness was needed, I feel like Clara has needed to be happy for a long time, and this was exactly what the author proscribes.
