So, while the goblins worked on saving Klaus, Cass and Elijah wandered around the magical district known as Patriot Parkway. Elijah looked around, amazed. He thought it was odd that the people were dressed from the 1920s, but Cassiopeia explained that the Wizarding World advances slower than the rest of the world, “But we're better than other countries. My father is from Britain, and the Wizarding World there is still stuck in the Victorian era,”
Elijah looked at Cass in shock, “For god's sake, why?” Elijah questioned.
“Well, their Ministry will not let them advance, and they are quite happy with how things are. They believe the No-Maj world has nothing to offer them and is, therefore, inferior. Some are trying to change that, but it's an uphill battle. My godmother, Hermione Weasley, is one of those people. She's a first-generation witch, meaning she was born to two No-Maj parents. Over there, they're called Muggle Born, but we find that using the term Muggle is a degrading word,”
Elijah nodded, “Are there any more differences between the two magical communities?”
“Well, in Britain, the wizards and witches believe in blood purity, and the purer you are, the more power you have. There are three main types of wizards, Pure Bloods, born into an all-wizarding family. Half-Bloods where one parent is a pureblood, and one is a first-gen or a No Maj. And then, of course, there are the first gens. The purebloods believe that they are superior and only marry into other pureblood families, sometimes marrying cousins to keep the line pure,” Cass explained.
At those words, Elijah grimaced, “And here?”
“For many years, MACUSA, which stands for Magical Congress of the United States, has forbidden the marriage of wizards and witches to No-Maj. It was to protect ourselves and avoid exposure and a witch hunt. But my Uncle, the current president of MACUSA, Samuel G. Quohog, has had that law abolished. He feared that people would start inbreeding as they do in England. However, we have to be careful about who we inform. If the No-Maj can't handle the truth, they are oblivated of our existence,” Cass explained.
“What's that?” Elijah asked.
“It's when we erase the memories of our existence from the No-Maj.”
“Will you do that to my brother and me,” Elijah asked?
“Oh, no! Vampires are considered part of our Magical world, as are werewolves and other creatures. You have rights in our community, but we classify you as Magical Creatures. And we do our best to protect the species, but do not interfere with their lives.”
“Then why did you stop my brother and me from killing each other?”
“Because with your death, that would wipe out entire bloodlines and upset the balance of our world. These Wiccan witches don't understand that after one thousand years on this planet, Vampires play an intricate role in our lives, at least in the Magical World. And, of course, because you and your brother's death wouldn't have solved anything.”
