While the Mikaelsons waited for Cass, Klaus put her in a room far from Hope. Elijah told him it wasn't necessary, but Klaus wouldn't take any chances with his daughter's safety. Even after all the help Cass had provided, he was still suspicious of her. On the other hand, Klaus found Cass very attractive, and he was jealous that she was friends with Elijah. Klaus would never admit it, though.
A few hours later, the Mikaelsons heard a crack in their courtyard. Elijah smiled and walked outside to greet their new resident, with the others following behind him. Klaus came out last with a scowl, “Welcome back, Cass,” Elijah smiled and greeted his new friend, then kissed her hand.
Klaus's stomach burned with an unfamiliar sensation. He didn't know what it was, but Klaus didn't like the feeling. Cass smiled at Elijah, “Good afternoon, Elijah.” Cass took Elijah's offered arm, the two went inside the mansion. Everyone followed Elijah and Cass; Klaus stalked after everyone, looking like a petulant child.
Elijah showed Cass around the mansion and then led her upstairs to her bedroom. As they walked down the hall, Cass noticed that Elijah's room was in front of Hope's room between her father and uncle. Elijah led Cass to the last room in the hallway; Cass laughed, “Let me guess, Mr. Mikaelson feels more comfortable that Hope's room is between the two strongest Vampires in the compound?”
“Yes,” Klaus sneered.
Cass rolled her eyes, “I assure you, Mr. Mikaelson, I have no intention of hurting Hope, but I know it's a moot point. I suppose you'll have to see for yourself,” Cass told Klaus.
“I suppose we will,” Klaus commented.
Cass clapped her hands, “Well, I might as well unpack.”
Hope stepped forward, “Are you going to use magic?” The young teen asked.
Cass smiled indulgently, “Of course. Would you like to watch?” Cass asked.
Hope nodded exuberantly, “If you don't mind?”
Cass laughed, “Of course not, the more exposure you have to core magic the better.”
When Cassiopeia laughed, Klaus felt something odd in his chest, a sort of flutter. Elijah's eyes quickly flicked toward his brother and his lip ticked. No matter how much Klaus protested having a stranger in their midst, with what Elijah heard, he knew his brother, at the very least, found Cass attractive.
Cass and Hope walked into her room and Cass set her feather-light beaded bag, which she got from her Aunt Hermione for her birthday, down on the table. She flicked her wrist and her wand fell into her hand. With a swish and flick of her wand, her clothes, and other belongings began to fly about the room, and put themselves away. Hope, fascinated, watched as Cass's clothes marched toward the closet, hung themselves up on hangers then put themselves away.
“Will I learn how to do that?” Hope asked.
Cass grinned at her new pupil, “Of course, I'll teach you all the household spells and this one, but you shouldn't depend entirely on your magic, or you'll forget how to do things the mundane way. My father is a pureblood from England and depended almost entirely on his magic. When he married my mother, he found it odd that she would hand wash the plates. She had to explain to him why she didn't depend entirely on magic. Since then he has loved hand washing the plates. 'The bubbles, Cass, the bubbles!' My father exclaimed.”
Hope laughed and agreed not to use her magic for everything. Cass continued to unpack while Klaus stood in the doorway, watching the awed and excited look on Hope's face. It meant a great deal to him that his daughter was happy and excited about something. As Klaus stood in the doorway watching in fascination, he couldn't help his eyes wandering to the dark-haired beauty who was talking to his daughter. Klaus had to admit if only to himself, that Cassiopeia Black was a rare beauty. So refined and elegant; that she moved like a ballerina, swishing her wand back and forth as she moved throughout the room.
As Klaus leaned against the doorframe and watched his daughter and the new witch enjoy themselves, he didn't notice Kol walk by the hallway and then come back. Klaus was so distracted that he didn't hear his younger brother sneak up behind him, “What are you doing, Brother?” Kol asked.
Klaus tried not to jump, but he turned to Kol, “I'm watching Hope to make sure she's safe.”
Kol rolled his eyes, “Come on, brother, not even you believe that, at least not entirely. I think that you are attracted to Cass.”
Klaus looked at Kol, and rolled his eyes, “Don't be absurd, I don't know anything about her and there's still a possibility that she's a danger.”
Kol raised an eyebrow at Klaus, “That's never stopped you before, brother. What's the difference?”
“This witch is going to be in constant contact with my daughter and I have to make sure she doesn't hurt Hope.”
Kol chuckled, “Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep, Nik.”
After Cass unpacked and explained some of the household spells she would teach Hope, Hope asked when she would get her wand. Cass smiled at the young teen, “We can go to Ilvermorny tomorrow to get your wand. That is if your father is alright with that?”
Cass then turned to Klaus who was still in the same place.“Well, Mr. Mikaelson? It's entirely up to you if you want me to take Hope tomorrow. You and the rest of your family are invited of course. I'm sure you'd like to see where Hope will be studying next year.”
Klaus was skeptical but when he saw the look in Hope's eyes he sighed and agreed.
“Excellent, I'll inform Professor Fontaine so he can meet us there.”
With the wave of her wand, Cass cast her Patronus; A ghostly wolf lept out of Cass's wand and stood in front of Cass. She gave her Patronus the message and the ghostly figure disappeared through the wall. Hope and Klaus stared at Cass with open mouths, “What the bloody hell was that?” Klaus asked.
Cass turned to Klaus, “That was my Patronus, it's a shield in the shape of the animal that best represents a person. With that, I can shield myself from dementors and use it to send messages.”
“What's a Dementor?” Hope asked.
“I'll explain that later when we get to your third year when I teach you to cast it. I will tell you that you conjure it using a powerful memory. The rest we'll study in greater detail later.”
Hope was a little disappointed but understood it was advanced magic and she needed to work her way to that point.
Once everything was settled, Elijah came back and told the trio that dinner was ready. Cass and Hope walked by Klaus and he followed behind them. Elijah hid his smile when he noticed the look on Niklaus's face. He could tell that his brother the witch was changing.
