AURORA'S POV
After countless hours of being on the road, we had finally made it to Scranton. It was about 2am by the time we actually made it to Chris' house, so needless to say we were ready to go to bed, but he wanted to give me a tour of the house first."Welcome to the Cerulli residence!" He exclaimed as he opened the door. I started to walk in, but he swept me up bridal style and carried me through the door. I giggled like a school girl.
"Isn't this supposed to be what you do when you get married?" I asked jokingly. He stopped and looked down at me, a large grin coming across his face.
"Well, according to that hotel, you are Mrs. Cerulli." He recalled yesterday when the receptionist mistook us as a married couple, and I guess he liked the idea of it, but we still hadn't had the "what are we" discussion. Chris finally put me down and took me by the hand to show me around his rather large house. He showed me the backyard, the gorgeous kitchen, the guest room, and lastly, his bedroom.
"And this is where I sleep and, ya know, devour prey and such." I look around his room, and it was extravagant. He had a large bed with soft black bedding, and it had a black canopy on it. His walls were painted a dark gray, and his dresser was dressed with various expensive colognes and pictures of his family. He also had a rather large TV anchored to the wall with an Xbox sitting on a shelf below it.
As I gazed at his room, he brought in our bags."I uh, I cleared the guest room for you, but I'd really love it if you stayed in my room, ya know, with me." He expressed. I smiled and agreed to stay in his room.
When I walked out of the room to grab my additional things from the car, I noticed one room at the end of the hallway that he didn't show me. I guess he noticed me looking because he stuttered when he saw me."T-that's just my music room. I have my guitars and such in there." His tone of voice made me wonder if it actually was or not, but I dismissed it and grabbed my stuff.
That night we both passed out cold the moment our bodies hit the bed. His bed was so warm and welcoming, but so was his tight embrace around me through the night. For once I felt safe, and protected. Almost like this was the man that would take a bullet for me.
The next morning we sat at his bar with some coffee and had the talk."Ora, I think you need to know something, and I just want you to listen to me," he started, "I am one hundred percent in love. I love the way you sing in the morning while getting ready, the way you dance in the kitchen while you cook, I even love hearing the crackle of your ankles in the morning. Ora, I love you. I am in love with everything about you." His confession was endearing, and brave. Most importantly, I was glad I wasn't the only one falling. I wasn't even sure what to say, so I crashed my lips onto his. I felt him smile against my lips, and he pulled back resting his forehead on mine, and holding my cheek in his hand.
"So, does this mean..."
"Yes, Chris, it does." His smile was bright enough to light up a room, and he picked me up off the chair and spun me around. That's when we heard a knock on the door. Chris pulled up his doorbell camera to see who it was.
"Fuck, it's my mom." He whispered. She rang the doorbell, then spoke into it.
"Christopher Cerulli, did you buy a new car?" She asked through the camera. Chris walked to the door and answered it. We were both still in our pajamas. He was in just his pajama pants, no shirt, and I was in one of his button downs.
"Good morning, mom." Chris said in a tired voice. She smiled, and walked in, then saw me.
"Oh, um, did I interrupt something?" She asked. Chris turned bright red.
"God, no, mom. This is Aurora. She is my, er, girlfriend."
"Well, she's just gorgeous. Tell me about yourself, Aurora."
"I, um," I suddenly forgot everything about myself, "I'm a funeral director and embalmer in the state of Texas, and I just got accepted into law school actually." It was all I could think of to tell her, so Chris took over, apparently having more to say about me than anyone ever had. He babbled on about my career and my achievements, putting me on a pedestal basically. Then, his mom asked the one question I hoped she wouldn't; how did we end up together? Chris took a deep breath and looked over at me, asking permission to tell her with his eyes. I placed my hand on his knee, and decided it was my story to tell.
"Well, Chris wanted to see our funeral home out of curiosity, and wanted to know about the process of everything, so my boss put me in charge of meeting with him. There was almost a little spark between us, as if you were to try to light a lighter without any fluid in it, but I was married at the time of us meeting. Alexander was..." I hesitated to find the correct words, but Chris filled in my blank with "abusive piece of shit". I explained how Chris got me out, and paid for my divorce and helped me land on my feet, and she smiled at him.
"That's just Chris, he's a lover for sure, and I can tell you are, too," she examined, "well, what are your thoughts on kids?" I choked on my coffee, and Chris facepalmed.
"Mom, come on, she's 23, she doesn't want kids yet." Chris told her. She threw her hands up defensively.
"All I'm saying is that I'm not getting any younger, and I'm ready for Chris here to give me a grand baby or two." She pushed. Chris shut his eyes tightly and furrowed his brow. I was just going to let him fight this battle, not wanting to upset his mother.
"I know, but Ora and I just started dating, it's a little early to talk about that type of commitment." His mom chuckled at his remark and rolled her eyes.
"Honey, when you love someone it's never to early for commitment of any sort. Well, I've gotta go to a lunch with a few friends, your house was just on the way and I hadn't heard from you in some time so I wanted to stop by." Chris walked his mom out the door, and then turned to face me. I was still taken aback by her comments about kids, starting to doubt if I really was going to be a good fit for him. I mean, our age difference was 13 years. My anxieties were getting the best of me, and Chris could tell. He lifted my chin up with his hand and cradled my face as he looked into my eyes.
"Ora, I love you, and if that means I never have kids then so be it. I don't want kids if I don't have you." His words melted me like butter on a frying pan, and it made me realize that when it would be time to leave in a few weeks my heart would probably break in two.
