"Sorry, Ellie, I have plans with Johnathan tonight. I can't go to the movies," Nancy sat in the mirror, taking her rollers out. I rolled my eyes. Nancy started dating Johnathan a few weeks ago after breaking it off with Steve, which I didn't know about until I got home last week.

"God, it's still weird that you're not with Steve." I rolled onto my bed.

"Maybe Mike is free tonight. I saw you sitting with him at lunch." She teased.

"Yeah, that's not happening." I laughed. Nancy eventually left, and I was alone. I read a few more chapters of The Handmaidens Tale before I finally gave in to boredom. I went to see what Mike was up to. I made my way down to the basement, where I found Mike and Will building something out of legos.

"Can we help you?" Mike looked confused. He and I have never really hung out. It was weird having him as my only option.

"What are you two nerds doing tonight." I plopped down on the couch.

"We're supposed to meet everyone at the arcade at 7." Will smiled at me.

"Who is everyone?" I asked, picking up the instructions for the legos.

"Dustin, Lucas," Mike snatched the booklet from my hands. "Eddie and Steve. Plus, all the girls."

"Mind if I tag along" I picked up some legos and started taking them apart and putting them back together. Mike and Will looked at each other and shrugged.

"Yeah, sure," Mike sighed. "Eddie is picking us up in a few minutes."

-----------------------------------------------------

Eddie picked us up at precisely 6:45. Despite how high he is all the time, he's very punctual. Music blared from the speakers of the beat-up van. Will and Mike sat in the back, discussing whatever science project was coming up. I kept catching myself looking at Eddie. His hair was messy but still curly enough to look good. His nose and lips sat perfectly, and his side profile was perfect. Looking at him now, I couldn't understand why people made fun of him.

"We're here!" Mike jumped out of the van before Eddie had the chance to park. Will followed behind, leaving Eddie and me alone. We finally made eye contact for the first time. His bangs were almost desperate for a trim, which suited his messy look.

"Ready?" He asked. I nodded my head, watching him get out. He ran around the van, opening my door. "M'lady." He bowed as I stepped out. I smiled and shook my head. We walked side by side into the arcade.

"There's my favorite Wheeler," Steve said as we walked through the door. I ran up and hugged him. Steve and I were like brother and sister before I left and before Nancy left him for Johnathan.

"How have you been?" I asked, pulling away from the hug.

"Pretty good, all things considering," He chuckled a little. "So you and Munson?" He whispered.

"Oh, no," I shook my head. "Just friends; I hardly know him. He and Mike have been hanging out a lot recently."

"Oh, I thought he was tagging along with you," He rubbed the back of his neck. "Anyways, have you met robin?" A girl with a short bob whipped her head around.

"Yeah, we had English together last year, didn't we?" I asked.

"Yeah!" She said excitedly.

"Anyways, this and Max and El." Steve introduced me to the rest of the girls. I knew of them, but I never interacted with mikes crowd until now. We played games for a few hours; I sucked severely. Eddie and I kept eye contact; he smiled every time, making me blush.
