"Yuu-kun! You need to get up!" Yoichi exclaimed, shaking Yuichiro.
Yuichiro groaned and forced himself to open his eyes. "What time is it?" he asked groggily, the sun from the open blinds temporarily blinding him.
"Thirty minutes before class starts," Yoichi said, crossing his arms and glaring at him. It wasn't often that Yoichi got mad, since the boy was pretty good at controlling his temper. But Yuichiro had the special ability of pissing even the calmest person off.
"Shit," Yuichiro cursed as he threw the covers off of him and jumped out of bed.
"The train already left, so we're going to have to walk today," Yoichi said with a sigh as Yuichiro scrambled to get ready.
Yuichiro felt bad for sleeping in, since Yoichi was going to end up being late too. Of course, he could've easily left without Yuichiro, but he was too nice for that. Yuichiro quickly washed up, changed, and grabbed a can of black coffee from the fridge to drink on the way.
"Let's go," he said as he slipped a jacket on. The pair made their way outside, and Yuichiro locked their apartment door.
Yuichiro lived with his two best friends, Yoichi and Kimizuki. Kimizuki had already left for class since he didn't give two fucks if Yuichiro was late or not. Next door to them were their other two best friends, Shinoa and Mitsuba. They had all gone to high school together and chose the same university to go to. They had recently moved into their apartments the previous summer, to avoid having to stay in the dorms and to also save some money. Since the university wasn't too far from the apartment complex, they typically walked or rode the train to campus.
On that particular day, Yuichiro had slept in too long and they ended up missing the train. So walking it was.
"You know, I set you an alarm so you can get up earlier," Yoichi said as they walked. It was a pretty autumn day. The four seasons were always pretty in Tokyo. The sun had a golden tint to it, the trees were shedding red, orange, and yellow leaves. There was a soft breeze that was slightly chilly, but not too cold.
"It didn't go off this morning," Yuichiro said.
"It did go off, you just hit the off button and went back to sleep."
Yuichiro felt his face heat up. "Oops."
"Just don't do it again, okay?" Yoichi said. "You know that professors hate tardiness."
Yuichiro waved his hand dismissively. "Yeah, yeah. I got it." Yoichi frowned but didn't say anything else.
They ended up making it there almost ten minutes late. Yuichiro didn't even want to still go to class, since he hadn't eaten breakfast and would rather have gone to the campus Starbucks to get something to eat. But Yoichi insisted they go anyway, so there Yuichiro was, sitting at the front of the large lecture room, listening to his professor babble on about the sleep cycle.
"He's going to make me sleep in about five minutes," Yuichiro whispered to Yoichi. Yoichi gave him a harsh nudge. "Ow!"
When the god awful lecture was finally over, Yuichiro was able to convince Yoichi to go to Starbucks with him. But on the way there, they were stopped by a massive crowd forming at the front of the academic building they were in.
"What the hell is going on?" Yuichiro asked, standing up on his tiptoes to try to see over the crowd. He heard girls squealing and wondered if a famous idol had started going to their school. Tokyo University was a pretty popular school among famous people— especially their arts program.
"Guys!" a familiar voice suddenly called.
Yuichiro turned around to see Shinoa waving at them. "Hey!" Yuichiro called back.
