After taking a hot shower, Jimin treated his leg wound with disinfectant from his small first aid kit. He wrapped it with gauze before he went to bed. He dressed in his softest pajamas in hopes of slipping into a dreamless sleep. Unfortunately, sometime between three and four in the morning, he stripped down to his underwear because he was too hot. He woke, covered with sweat, and shaking .
His body was restless and unbearably thirsty. No matter how much water he put in his system, the thirst persisted and sometimes he thought drinking water made it worse. Water wasn't helping him, and he wasn't sure why.
Around six in the morning, he decided to stay awake instead of fighting himself to sleep. Jimin made a cup of coffee and hoped the hot liquid could smooth the dry patch inside of his throat. He pushed back the curtains over his sliding glass door and looked out at the small parking lot. Just beyond the line of downtown's brick and wooden buildings, he saw the first glimmer of the sun.
He returned to his recliner and sunk into the cushions, nursing his hot cup of coffee.
The coffee was surprisingly effective but it didn't erase the thirst completely.
Jimin placed his hand against his forehead, checking for a fever, but he couldn't feel a difference.
Maybe this is a side-effect of the stingray. Jimin found his phone and started to search for the effects of stingray poison.
Thirst was not on the list of symptoms, but sweating and pain at the sight of the sting were. So was death. Jimin realized how lucky he was to survive the sting in the first place. It was deadly, and he was able to sleep it off.
The sun rose higher in the sky and illuminated the parking lot below. The cars reflected the light and Jimin found it annoyingly bright. He shut the curtains as he started to feel a headache come on. He kept the lights off.
He turned on the TV to watch the morning news only to find the artificial light too much for his eyes. The minor headache turned into a throbbing pain behind his eyes, buried deep in his skull, and he was forced to turn it off.
Jimin returned to his bedroom and collapsed into bed again. He covered his eyes with his arm and forced himself to go back to sleep, unable to handle any amount of light around him.
Of course, today would be the day he would get a migraine. As if life couldn't get any worse.
Jimin dreamed of nothing, though he doubted he slept in general. He tossed his body over his covers, but stubbornly kept his eyes shut. He refused to give up on the prospect of sleep until his morning alarm went off at eight o'clock.
Thankfully, by that point his headache had eased some of its pain and he was able to leave his bed. He kept his head down with one hand shielding his eyes. He searched his kitchen and found the ibuprofen bottle. He took two to start his day and drank another cup of coffee.
Jimin was still limping, but he knew he had to go to work today. They were receiving their milk shipment, and they were short-staffed as it was.
He drew all his curtains and moved through the house like a zombie. He wanted to avoid light as much as possible and allow the painkillers to kick in before heading to work. He knew how horrible migraines could be, and he hoped he caught the symptoms soon enough to stop them altogether.
Though while he was brushing his teeth in the dark, he noticed he looked as awful as he felt. His face was pale; it reminded him of how he looked before throwing up. It wasn't a good sign but he couldn't talk his way out of work. His manager hated when they took sick days, and nobody would trade for a morning shift on this short notice.
