He drove too fast down the dark road and I looked out the window, trying to find some landmark that I knew. It seemed that we were going out of town. We drove for another ten minutes or so until Kaiden slowed down and pulled into a driveway. I couldn’t see a thing outside the windows.
“Where are we?” I demanded.
Kaiden gave me a wary look. “My house.”
A light flickered on over the porch and lit up this cute little house tucked in between two big trees. It almost had cabin-look.
A figure came out of the door but I couldn’t see them because they had their back to light. “There’s someone else here?” I asked Kaiden quietly as he opened my door for me and helped me out.
He nodded and smiled at the figure, a pointless gesture in my opinion, as it was nearly pitch black. “He’s a friend.”
When we got to porch the guy held out his hand and I shook it. It was cold and smooth like satin. “I’m Malachi. Let’s get you inside, shall we?”
Kaiden noticed that I was shivering and put his arm around me, which didn't help a whole lot as he was cold, as we walked inside. Malachi turned on the lights and led us into the living room.
The house was beautifully decorated. It was so warm and inviting. In the living room, the long couch was a plush red, as were the walls, and the carpet was black. The curtains were white and so were the chairs on either side of the couch. It seemed to have a feminine touch to it.
Malachi sat down in one of the chairs eying me furtively. I sat down on the couch and pulled my knees up to my chest, wrapping my arms around them. I was shaking but I didn’t really think it was from the cold.
“So you’re her, huh?” Malachi asked after Kaiden had disappeared into another room. And I really mean disappeared. One moment he was standing by the couch then the next moment I could hear a door opening in another room.
“If you mean Celia Travers, than yeah, I’m her.” My teeth were starting to chatter now, and the shaking speed up. Okay, maybe it was the cold...
Malachi smirked at me. “I mean, the girl from the prophecy and all that.” He paused, looking thoughtful. “I assume Kaiden told you everything?”
I just stared at him for a minute then slowly nodded once. “You can’t really believe that, can you?” I asked quietly, hoping Kaiden couldn’t hear me.
He started laughing so hard he fell onto the floor and rolled around for a few minutes before Kaiden walked in and kicked him in the stomach.
He laid a blanket around my shoulders and gave me a cup. Inside was a dark liquid that looked very much like hot chocolate. “What’s so funny?”
“She... asked... me... if... I believed... what you told... her.” He managed between laughs. This set him off laughing some more but finally he controlled himself and sat back into the chair.
“It’s not really all that funny.” I mutter under my breath. I regretted it instantly, as both Malachi and Kaiden laughed at me that time.
I glared at Kaiden and he sobered up. I wasn’t shaking anymore; the coco and blanket had warmed me up. My hands were still trembling, though.
“Okay so, say I do believe you...” I trailed off trying to figure out if I actually did or not. I supposed it kind of made some sense, in a twisted way. I mean, he was fast and quiet but I’d seen him in sunlight and he didn’t burn... or glitter.
I was too lost in thought to continue so Kaiden prompted me. “Say you did believe us...”
“What exactly would we do about your parents?” I asked, looking from Malachi to Kaiden. They both shrugged then grinned at each other.
“We haven’t figured that part out yet. We assume we’ll have to fight and kill Kaiden’s dad and then mommy’o can just be locked up.” Malachi answered.
“And we don’t have to worry about my brothers. None of them want to take sides but if they had to, they’d take mine.” Kaiden said, looking at me.
“Well okay... but you can go into sunlight. And you don’t burn or glitter.” Malachi snorted so loudly I jumped and slopped coco down the front of me, which was covered with the blanket. Suddenly Kaiden was there with napkins.
“Sunlight doesn’t do anything to us. That’s just one of those things that got invented over time.” He explained, gazing down at me. Again I noticed how beautiful his eyes were and I couldn’t look away for a minute.
When I did tear them away, however, I felt the urge to cry and I didn’t know why. Kaiden stroked my hair comfortingly. “You look tired. Why don’t you get some rest?” He asked, taking my hand and leading me out into the kitchen.
There was a hallway off that and several doors off the hallway. We entered the last door on the left and I gasped. There was a huge white bed with a canopy. The sheets were all silk and white as well and the pillows were bigger than me. It was my dream bed. The walls were all soft blue. The rug was very fluffy and white and a small brown chest sat at the side of the bed with a small but intricate lamp on it. It was amazing.
“You can sleep in here, if you want too.” He said, watching me as I walked toward the bed.
I plopped down on it, making the canopy fly up above me. “It’s perfect.” I smiled to him and patted the bed beside me.
He walked over and sat down on the edge. “Do you drink blood?” I asked, wrinkling my noise involuntarily. He laughed quietly and nodded. “Do you kill people?” I asked, trying to remember if there had been an recent deaths I’d heard about.
He shook his head. “We just take what we need and we always give a drug to them so that they don’t remember.” He paused, looking up at the ceiling. “Well, most of us do. My parents, for example, are content with draining their victims dry and moving on to the next. And there are others, mostly those in power or who are just cruel, who kill when they feed. There are some who kill by accident, as well.”
He looked over at me to see my reaction. I tried not to have one but my nose was still wrinkled. It was pretty gross to think about. And impossible, but I was trying to be open-minded.
“So you believe me now?” Kaiden asked in a gentle voice. I stared at the ceiling for a minute but then decided that I probably did. I looked back over to him and nodded slowly.
He smiled. “I’ll let you sleep, then. Goodnight, Celia.”
I smiled at the way he said my name. He made it sound like a good name, instead of the horrible one I’d thought it was.
“Goodnight, Kaiden.”

KAIDEN’S POV
After I turned out the light in Celia’s room and shut the door, I walked back to the living room. Malachi was sitting the chair watching TV and smirking at me.
“Someone’s got the hots for a human.” He sneered.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” I replied staring at the TV screen as well. It was turned too low for a human’s ears to be able to pick up and Malachi was flipping through the channels so fast that no real sound was coming out anyway.
“I’m pretty sure I do. Besides, she couldn’t be the girl if you didn’t. Kind of a dead give away, isn’t it?” He snickered and I threw Celia’s coco mug at him, hard. He caught it and set it beside him on the floor.
He was right though. The prophecy had predicted that I would find a girl who would aid me in destroying my parents and their kingdom. But it wouldn’t just be any girl. I’d know that she was the one because she’d attract me in a way that no other girl would. I’d find her stunning and when other girls were offering themselves for me, I’d only want her. According to the prophecy, I’d only ever want her blood, too.
That part I thought would have to be overlooked. It was true, she smells very... appealing but I didn’t plan on biting her anytime soon.
“I’m gonna go get a bite to eat.” Malachi said, turning off the TV. He laughed at his own joke. “Would you like to come?”
I shook my head. “And what? Leave Celia here alone?”
Malachi laughed. “You could always bring her along.” And then he was gone.
Shaking my head I walked down the hallway. I could feel Celia’s warmth through the door, smell her blood so strongly, like it was calling my name...
I was in her room without realizing it, beside her bed, looking down at her. Quickly I backtracked and went into my own room, shutting the door behind me. I had to keep better control over myself.
I laid down on the bed, remembering how it sounded when she said my name, how her hand felt against mine.
And I knew that it wasn’t her blood that was tempting me.
