When I woke up, the first thing I was aware of was the cold. I shivered and rolled over, opening my eyes to look across the wide bed. It was empty.
I sat up quickly, looking around the room anxiously. Kaiden wasn’t in it and the door was closed. Before I could panic I heard voices and opened the door to investigate.
Kaiden, Malachi, and three other people were all standing in the kitchen. Kaiden had called the older man David last night. The other guy must have been Kaiden’s friend. He had his arms around a girl and was whispering something in her ear. She laughed lightly, looking very content.
“Hey, you’re up.” Malachi noticed, smiling and walking over to me. He grabbed me in a hug before pointing to the other guy. “That’s Joshua and his girlfriend, Sam.”
Sam had long, streaked blonde hair and beautiful light, sea-green eyes. She was slim and tall, with long legs and perfect curves. She had clear, fair skin and long, blue nails. At the moment she was wearing a cute blue dress. It was tight at the waist and bodice and flowed gently down to just above her knees.
“It’s nice to meet you.” I said, smiling as I shook Sam’s hand. Joshua grinned, flashing a set of perfect pearly whites, and shook my hand as well.
They both seemed very nice, as did David. He smiled and asked me if I was feeling better.
“Much better, thank you.” I smiled, glancing at Kaiden as I did.
He was giving me a look that I didn’t understand. It was the kind of look that gave me a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. Strange, but not unwelcome.
“We’re going to go to Joshua’s parents’ house this evening. We’re hoping they’ll decide to help us.” Kaiden informed me, walking forward and taking my hand.
“And if they don’t?” I asked bluntly. Kaiden smiled encouragingly, not looking doubtful at all. “They will.”
We were all quiet for a minute before Malachi sighed. “Okay, I’m going hunting. Anyone else fancy coming?”
Joshua and Kaiden nodded, both seeming reluctant. Sam’s frown mirrored mine. David raised his eyebrows.
“Why don’t you just...” David trailed off, looking at Sam and I suggestively.
Joshua shook his head immediately. “It’s for them to offer, not for us to take. Besides, it’s not polite with company around.”
Sam raised her eyebrows mockingly at Joshua and he grinned back. I opened my mouth to argue but Kaiden shook his head. “No.”
Malachi sighed, grumbling under his breath, too low for me to hear. Kaiden clearly heard him. He slapped him hard upside the head and Joshua snickered.
Joshua gave Sam a goodbye kiss and took off after Malachi.
Kaiden walked over and kissed my forehead. “Stay here and be good.” He murmured before disappearing as well.
Sam smiled and gestured toward the small living room and we both walked in to watch TV.
“How long do you think they’ll be gone?” I asked.
“They’ll probably be hurrying so I doubt it will be long.” She laughed, rolling her eyes as she muttered something. I thought I caught, “unnecessary.”
After a few minutes of silence Sam shifted her position and I caught a glimpse of her wrist. A question bubbled to my lips before I could stop it.
“Does Joshua drink from you?” I asked and then put my hand over my mouth. “Sorry.”
Sam laughed at my expression. “Yes.” She showed me her wrist and pulled back her hair, revealing two half-moons.
“Oh.” It was all I could come up with.
She laughed again. “I’m assuming Kaiden does as well.” She pointed to my neck, the side that Charles had bitten and I shook my head.
“Well, yes, he does. But this,” I indicated the bit on the side of me facing her, “was Charles, his father.”
She gasped and slide closer, examining it. “Oh God, it must have been awful.” She said, covering her mouth in horror.
I nodded, a little surprised. “How’d you know that?”
“Well, I thought Kaiden would have told you. After you’ve been marked by someone then it’s horrible pain when someone else bites you. Even if you give consent, it’ll still hurts. And I bet you didn’t give consent to Charles.” She muttered the last part darkly.
I shook my head. “Kaiden did tell me that, actually. And no, I didn’t.”
She smiled apologetically. “Luckily, I’ve never had any problems like that.”
I smiled back at her easily. She seemed like a really cool girl and I could understand why Joshua liked her.
Suddenly Malachi, Joshua and Kaiden were in front of us, all looking annoyed. Malachi was ranting, his hands on his hips, looking very much like my mother. “...don’t see why you even bother wasting your time if you know you’re not going to anyway.” He was saying.
“Give it a rest, Malachi.” Joshua muttered, shooting him an miffed look.
Sam and I stood up at the same time, both a bit confused. Joshua took Sam’s hand and led her away while Kaiden took mine and led me into the room I’d slept in. Malachi sighed happily and plopped down on the couch.
Once Kaiden had the door shut he sat down on the bed, his face in his hands, and I realized why they’d come back so quickly.
I couldn’t help but laugh as I went to sit next to him. “Joshua can’t feed from other people either?”
He looked up at me, eyes narrowed. “He can, but it’s not something he enjoys.”
I laid back on the bed, resting my chin on the hand. “How come?”
“Because he’s marked her. And...well I suppose it’s also because he loves her. After he marked her their bond became that much stronger. She’s the only one he’ll want to drink from. But feeding off of someone, or something, else wouldn’t hurt him, it’d just be unpleasant.”
“Why?” I asked, feeling my eyebrows knit together.
“Why what?”
“Why is it unpleasant? Is it all just in his head or is it actually something physical?” I asked, reaching up and playing with the hem of Kaiden’s blue, plaid shirt.
He shrugged. “I suppose it could be either...or both. It doesn’t always happen when a vampire bites a human with consent, or else we’d be much more careful with who we bite. A lot of times we do get consent before we bite our prey but in order to form a bond like that...to really mark them as yours, they’ve got to want to be yours.” He explained.
I felt myself blushing. Even before I knew that I loved him, he’d known because he’d been able to “mark me as his.”
I smiled as I thought that, the realization that I did love him hitting me.
“What?” He asked, examining my red cheeks. I just shook my head.
“You do realize that you don’t have to go and make yourself feed off of someone else. I don’t mind.” I said, not meeting his gaze. My cheeks heated again. Not minding was putting it lightly.
He shook his head stubbornly. “Doesn’t it creep you out or scare you?”
I shrugged, not letting my expression change. “It used to; before you did it.”
To my horror, my cheeks reddened even more and he chuckled under his breath. Damn my teenage hormones.
“I could hurt you.” He said, suddenly serious again. He raised one eyebrow, as if daring me to disagree.
I shrugged. “Probably, but I don’t think you will.”
He was suddenly on top of me, keeping himself elevated on his hands so I didn’t feel his weight. “And why’s that?”
“Well you didn’t hurt me the first time. And I trust you.”
He smiled slightly, in spite of himself. “It’s no big deal. I don’t mind feeding off of something else.”
I shook my head. “Yes you do. And you won’t until you absolutely need to. I don’t want you to have to make yourself uncomfortable.”
He laughed a bit darkly and sat down beside me again. I raised my wrist, giving him the look.
He frowned at me before carefully taking my hand. He pressed his lips to it, kissing me lightly. Before shooting me once last look, most likely telling me that I could back out if I wanted, he put his lips back to my wrist.
I felt a small pinch and a little pain but it was quickly overpowered by something else. Just like last time, my cheeks heated as my body started to tingle.
I shifted my position, sitting up, so that I was more comfortable and leaned against the headboard of the bed, biting my lip to keep quiet. His hands went to my back, rubbing comforting circles up and down it.
After another minute I couldn’t keep quiet anymore and I let out the small moan.
It was the strangest feeling, the best feeling, that I’d ever felt in my life. It kept heating and I started to feel the fire, a very good fire, in all areas of my body, particularly one. I gritted my teeth and fought against the urge to make noise.
“Kaiden.” I moaned quietly, immediately wanting to slap my hand over my mouth. Normally, I’d have blushed but I couldn’t find it in myself to be embarrassed. I was a little exasperated at myself though.
What was my problem? This was about him getting food, not about me getting off.
He stopped once I had spoken and immediately licked over the bite mark, closing it so it would stop bleeding.
Just like last time, I didn’t want him to stop. Once my wrist was no longer bleeding he tailed kisses up my arm until he reached my t-shirt sleeve and then skipped to my neck.
“See. Nothing to worry about.” I panted. He smirked and moved his mouth to mine. I ran my hand through his hair and onto his neck. His arms wound around my waist, rubbing up and down my back again.
He smirked into the kiss and then trailed his lips down to my collarbones. His hands moved slowly around to the front of me and went under my shirt, moving across my stomach.
I fidgeted slightly as his hands moved across my chest before going down to my legs, not used to having someone touch me like this.
The fidgeting quickly stopped however, and I was feeling that tingling fire again as he moved his hand higher and higher.
Slowly, not really sure how to do it, I moved my hand down, across his stomach. I pulled his shirt up and over his head and traced the planes of his stomach, under his shirt, for a moment before moving my hand further down.
We were still sort of sitting but we were facing each other now. I moved my hand around on his lap, the same way he was doing to mine.
Kaiden gasped and moved his lips back to mine, both of us moaning together.
I never wanted this feeling this stop. And not even just the pleasure. Being happy and being able to be with Kaiden like this were almost as much of a draw.
I pushed us back so I was on top of him while I applied more pressure. Some small part of my mind reminded me that we weren’t the only people in the house, as he moaned particularly loudly.
Kaiden looked up at me, his hands under my shirt. I could tell he was asking for permission.
I sighed and rolled off of him. I kept my whole side pressed against him, though.
We didn’t speak for a moment and I was afraid he was mad at me. “I’m sorry.” I said, looking over at him.
And I really was. It’s not that I didn’t want him in that way; I did. My entire body ached with lose of him. But I didn’t want him like this. We were in someone else’s home, where other people could hear us or walk in on us. I wanted it to be special, and much more private than this.
He smiled reassuringly but I wasn’t reassured. I pulled myself up on my elbow, tracing my finger across his stomach and chest again. “It’s not that I don’t want...It’s just that we’re not even my own house. Or yours.”
He smiled again, stroking my hair. “Stop worrying. I won’t push you.”
I smiled back and laid down on his chest, feeling very tired. “You should sleep, you lost a lot of blood.”
I could hear the frown in his voice and I pulled my head up. “Don’t you dare feel guilty.” I said strictly, glaring at him.
He smiled again, half-heartedly. “Go to sleep, love.”
I laid back down across his chest, thinking. I realized something, after I’d been thinking for a while. I snapped my head up to look at him and he gazed back curiously.
“You told me that you love me.” I said, my voice slow.
He nodded carefully, looking a little hurt. I realized that he probably thought that I hadn’t been listening then or that I wanted him to take it back.
I shook my head quickly, cradling his face in my hands. “No, no. See, I just realized that you’d told me...but I’d never told you back.”
He nodded, eyes looking even more hurt. “It’s alright.” He said quietly, dropping his gaze for a second.
I shook my head again. “I love you, Kaiden.” I whispered.
He looked at me for a long moment, as if trying to figure out if he believed me.
“I never meant to not tell you. I guess I was just...Well, I don’t know.” I pursed my lips, trying to think of a way to say it and not sound like an idiot. I was drawing a blank.
He grinned aloofly at me and kissed my forehead. “I wasn’t upset that you didn’t say it back. I wasn’t looking for reassurances.” He laughed lightly.
“I know. But I wanted you to know. That I do, I mean.” I smiled tentatively, wondering if that made any sense at all.
He wrapped his arms tightly around my waist and pulled me into him.
Neither of us said anything else; we didn’t need too.
