Some say love is like your favourite song. You discover it, fall in love and listen to it on repeat. But as time passes, the song gets buried among the others in your playlist – you have almost overheard it anyways. And then, one day, you hear it again, remember it and you get reminded of why you loved it so much. You start to listen to it differently as back then when you just had discovered it. You know every word of it, you can hum the melody anytime anywhere and feel the beat within you just by thinking of the song. You cherished it at first, but now you study it to be able to dive deeper in the feeling the song gives you and don't grow tired of it. The song is precious to you, resonates within you and somehow becomes part of your life's melody. Just like that.
That's what I thought about the next morning, laying in my bed. I wasn't sure if I was ready to get up now. I hadn't gotten enough sleep at all and there was a risk of running into Theo on my way out. But my professor wouldn't wait for everyone to gather and it was an obligatory lecture. I groaned and then sat up in an instant. Otherwise, I wouldn't get out of bed at all. I tiptoed out of my room after changing and got my stuff, deciding to grab food on the way. I wasn't ready to face Theo just yet.
However, I knew I couldn't avoid him completely. And as I got back from my lecture, I found a bag hanging on the door handle of my room, with a note on it. I took it off to read it. "I wanted to get it for your birthday but maybe you want to wear it for tonight. I allowed to make a reservation at that burger place for 6pm. If you want to come along, just meet me outside around 5:45. Theo" I peeked into the bag, curious yet nervous. I saw some wrapping paper and before anyone could bother me, I decided to look at it inside my room. Hurriedly, I went in and carefully took the present out, unwrapping it. On my lap lay a knee-long black skirt with chains and a black crop top with ripped sleeves, looking very much like a certain outfit design of mine.

I couldn't keep still, stepping from one foot to the other. I glimpsed at my watch. 5:40pm. After some counselling and persuading from Soul, I decided to give it a shot. Theo hadn't been at home all day, seemingly having a long day at university. But when he stepped around the corner just now, I started smiling even though I didn't want to. His face lit up as well. He stopped in front of me and looked at me. "You look stunning", he said sincerely. I blushed. "Thanks for the clothes", I mumbled. "I still think you deserve to show off your beauty", he shrugged. I had been surprised myself how good the clothes I got from him looked on me. It might not be the perfect outfit for a date, but it held some kind of meaning, so I didn't mind. And it fitted the style of my favourite burger place still. Theo wore a simple jeans and a black button-up shirt. It wasn't much but enough to make him look stunning. He offered me his arm. "Shall we go?", he asked.
We were pretty awkward around each other at first. But slowly thawing up, we fell into meaningless chatter on our way. We went in, ordered and finished eating like it was just another normal day. Now however, Theo suddenly seemed nervous again. I looked at him questioning. "So, uhm, what are we now?", he asked out of the blue. "Well, what is this?", I asked back. "I hoped we could consider it a date", he said nervously and almost inaudible. I blushed and smiled nervously. Then I took his hand and answered amused: "If I ever can imagine to give love a shot again, I guess you're the best option to do so." His fingers brushed over mine, making my heart race. "Charming as ever", he then grinned at me. I shrugged smirking. "No, for real, I'd say let's try. If you are ready for it yet", I continued, serious again. He locked eyes with me. "I liked you from the day I got to know you. But I didn't realize just how much I like you until yesterday. And now I actually don't want to waste even more time", he said. I was flattered. "Then let's not", I suggested.
"Will I have to introduce myself to your brother yet again?", Theo asked on our way back, arm shyly wrapped around my waist. I chuckled. "Intak already quite likes you but expect the typical 'Don't hurt her or I'll hurt you'-talk", I told him. "Noted", he laughed and suddenly pulled me away from the usual path. I followed surprised. We crossed the street and took another road uphill. I have lived here for so long, but I never went that way. I always said it would only lead to some other houses, nothing special. But instead, I found myself just behind those houses on a path between them and a wall securing that no passengers could stumble down the hill on the other side again. He walked a bit further until the shrubs behind the walls got lower and I gasped upon the now revealed view. I saw all the way to the next bigger city, its lights shining in the dark night warmly, the nearby river crossing the landscape in gentle waves and reflecting the sparkle of the moon up above. "It's not a fairy tale like view", Theo shrugged apologetically, "But the only close one I could find this afternoon." "I love it", I told him and let myself fall against him. "That's good then", he gave back.
We stood in front of the house a bit later and Theo grinned at me: "Hey, that is convenient, I don't have to go some way alone after walking my girl home." I chuckled and hit him jokingly before unlocking the door and peeking inside. Nobody to see. I turned back to Theo. "Shall we tell them already?", I asked. He shrugged: "You decide." "Soul already knows since I needed someone to talk to. But as for the others... Eh. Let's wait a bit", I suggested and he nodded. I wanted to go in, but he held me back. "But in that case", he said, "I will have to do this here already." I looked at him confused but quickly understood as he leaned in closer. "Do you mind?", he asked. "Not at all", I smiled amused. "Wonderful", he whispered against my lips before finally connecting them.
And they lived happily ever after.
