my life could have gone different
in a number of ways.
i could have been dealt
so many varying hands.
which with even the slightest detail changed
could have flipped my point of view
like a coin.
could have been the daughter of a convict
with whom i wouldn't have this trusted bond.
could have easily been a victim
of second impact syndrome.
could have lost my walking freedom
if the glass dug just millimeters deeper.
could have gone on trial
for battery in the court yard.
could have lived for nothing
as a runaway.
getting run off the road
could have ended badly if in a smaller vehicle.
could have been fatherless
if his seatbelt hadn't torn in the wreck.
could have gone blind
instead of only near sighted
after the impact.
could have never made it to my first birthday
if he hadn't revived my heartbeat.
could have miss my chance falling in love
if i had stayed in his toxic embrace.
could have laughed a lot less
if these card were dealt in a darker shade.
