Chapter 17

When I woke up this morning, I was in a good mood because today was my last day of being grounded. Which also meant that my birthday was tomorrow, but that hadn’t clicked yet.

I got dressed with a smile on my face, ate with a smile on my face and drove to school with a smile on my face. Jesse keeps looking at me like I’m a psychopath, but that’s okay.

“Why are you so happy today?” Jesse asks me on our way to school.

“Today’s my last day of house arrest, which means I get my bike back tomorrow!” I respond.

“Oh yeah, tomorrow is your birthday.” Jesse mumbles to himself.

“Yeah, but whatever, a birthdays a birthday.” I say with a shrug.

“Yeah, but you’ll be able to find your mate after tomorrow.” Jesse points out.

“When your dad touched my skin for the first time, instantly it felt like electricity coursing through my body, or some sort of fire, or even a firework show. Either way, the feeling was heart stopping and breathe taking, or I fell in love instantly” My mom’s words came flooding back to me.

“Oh yeah, a mate.” I say

“You don’t sound too excited.” Jesse comments.

“Well why would I be? Being tied down for the rest of your life. I’d feel like you won’t be able to live anymore, you’d be so whipped that your thoughts will be clouded and stuff, I don’t want that.” I say while I stare out the window, my happy moon slipping away.

“That’s weird, I thought only guys thought that way...” Jesse trails off.

“Well way to be sexist.” I mutter.

“Well, whatever Red you can join the club.” Jesse says.

I turn to face him. “You have the same thoughts?”

“Well, yeah. The janitors’ closet is like a second home to me, why would I give that up?” Jesse jokes with a smirk on his face.

I hit his arm and laugh. “You’re such a man-whore Parker, you should be ashamed.”

“What can I say; the girls can’t keep their hands off me.”

“Gross.” I say will turning my nose up.

Jesse laughs at my expression and parks his Jeep.

I grab my bag and hop out before closing the door. “I’ll see you later!”

“Bye Red.”

I walk down the halls to try and find Meredith and the twins, but oddly enough, there nowhere to be found.

“I wonder where they are...” I ask myself silently.

“Who are you looking for Tyra?”

I jump five feet in the air and turn to face the boy who talked to me. I mentally growl at the form.

“My friends, why?”

“Oh, because if you’re not busy, I’d like to talk to you, alone.” He says with a smirk.

“Look mutt, I don’t have time for this, the bell is going to ring any second.” I say with a sigh.

Matt smiles evilly and before I can process what just happened, I’m pinned up against the wall, my arms above my head and Matt’s body way to close for comfort.

“I know your secret Tyra, so don’t make me mad, and don’t try and change my mind because I have evidence.” Matt whispers in my ear.

I freeze and my blood runs cold. Does he know? But how could he...
