Phil's POV

We were riding and it had now been a week and a half since we had left. Ellie sat behind me and had her head resting on my shoulder, I didn't know if she was awake

"I wonder what it was like living here in the old world" I asked

"Certainly no more peaceful than now" She answered

"Oh are you awake?"

"Yes, why?"

"Nothing, it's just that you were leaning against me and so I thought you were asleep"

"No, I was awake. I lean on you because it gives me security, that's all" She said

I didn't say anything, but I giggled

At one point we heard some infected, running toward us, so we tried to escape with the horse. Our escape did not last long, in fact we were thrown from the horse, and I ended up on a rope that hung me upside down. Next to me hung a clicker, still alive. I didn't know where Ellie was at that moment, I just saw two people walking towards me

"We have a live one!" Said one of the two

One of the two untied me and the other grabbed me, trying to get the clicker to bite me, but I managed to get free and had the clicker bite him in the neck. The other tried to shoot me, but I was sheltering behind the body of his partner, who was acting as a human shield for me. I took the machine gun he had hanging behind his back and shot the other man's legs, causing him to fall to the ground unarmed. So I walked to him

"Where is Abby?" I asked

"I don't know any Abby- I swear-"

"Where the fuck is Abby?" I asked, raising my voice and pointing the machine gun at him

"We captured a girl! She had arms like mine! I swear!"

"All right, where is she?"

"They took her to an abandoned resort"

"It's convenient for you that it's right"

"Yes, it is as I say!" Answered

"Good" I said and then shot him

I started looking for Ellie and found her unconscious in the middle of a hedge, she must have been there from before, so I approached

"Ellie!"

I called her but she didn't answer, she wasn't awake, so I shook her arm a little and she woke up

"What happened? Where am I?"

"Don't worry, you just fainted, get up" I said and helped her up

"What happened to you, you have blood on you"

"Nothing, they caught me earlier and finally one gave me some information about Abby, then I took him out"

"Where is Abby?"

"He told me they took her to an abandoned resort"

"We'd better go" She said and we set off

--- Time Skip ---

We arrived at what appeared to be a resort, after walking a long way and taking out some infected

"This is it, let's be careful" I said as I pointed my finger toward the roof of the resort

"Okay" Ellie replied and we entered in silence

We passed through the courtyard outside and saw infected people tied with chains while guards were watching them

"Abby, you better not be infected" Ellie whispered as she began to shake one more time

I took her hands and said

"We'll get her, count on it"

Then an idea came to me

"Ellie, how about shooting the chains to free those infects instead of facing the guards?"

"You're a genius" She told me and we freed the infects, who took out all the guards

With the way clear we went inside the building and saw people imprisoned

"Have you seen someone named Abby?" I asked

"Please let us go!" She said to me as Ellie shot the lock

"Where is Abby?" I asked again

"She will now be at the pillars" She replied pointing to the beach

"She will be dead by now" She added as they took weapons from the drawers

I got all the prisoners out and we headed for the beach. Once there it was a harrowing scene, so many people tied to poles and left there on the beach to die. Walking between the poles, Ellie saw Abby

"You" She said releasing her

Instead of thinking of us, she went to another person, a boy to be precise. It was the same one who had intervened when we were in the theater

"The boats are that way" Abby said, pointing to the shoreline.

"You know we can't let you leave like that" I said as she rested the boy inside the boat.

"I'm not leaving" She replied

"Do that and he dies" Said Ellie pointing the gun at the boy

"He has nothing to do with it" Abby replied

"You made him part of this" Said Ellie loading the gun

"Okay" Abby replied as she prepared to fight me

We exchanged blows, I even managed to stab her, making her more vulnerable. I grabbed her and put her head underwater, trying to take her down, for Joel and for all the harm she had done to Ellie and me. She was about to drown when I heard Ellie

"Phil, let her go"

I let her go and she tried to fight back, but Ellie pointed her weapon at her and said

"Get away from him and leave!"

Abby did as Ellie said, taking the boat and leaving

I tried to catch my breath as Ellie approached

"Now that I had her, why did you make me give her up?" I asked, not understanding her behaviour

"Phil, I don't want this cycle of violence to continue, nor do I want you to risk your life" She replied

"But- Joel-" I began to sob, trying to hold back my tears

"He would be proud of you, of the person you are" She replied

I burst into tears as I sat on the beach, Ellie sat next to me and hugged me

"Shh, don't cry, it's okay" She said

She took my face in her hands and wiped my tears with her thumbs, then looked into my eyes and kissed me

"I am proud to be your wife"

"I am proud to be your husband" I replied

"Now what do we do?" I asked

"I would suggest we leave this shitty place, and go home"

"Good idea" I replied as I stood up

We found a horse and headed for home. On the way I said

"I wonder if Dina is all right"

"She's sure to be pissed off at us"

"Fuck, it's scary when she gets pissed off!" I said laughing

"Yeah" Ellie replied and we continued on our return journey
