Small paws prodded the She-Kit's side rather roughly, "CricketKit! Wake up!" A voice squeaked. That was her brother, Mudkit. "Go away..." CricketKit groaned, she had only slept a few minutes and once again he was trying his attempt at waking her up. "Come on lazy, OliveBranch is taking us to the river today!" Mudkit chirped. ChricketKit's eyes snapped open, the river!

She was almost 6 moons old and starting to get curious of the world outside Riverclan camp. OliveBranch, her mother, was always persistent that she and her brother had to wait until they were old enough to learn how to swim until they could leave the camp. CricketKit was so close to becoming an apprentice, she could already see the adventures in her creative mind. And now finally, after many moons of begging and attempts at sneaking from Riverclan camp, she would learn to swim.

CricketKit jumped out of her feather and moss nest and out into the sun dappled clearing. Soaking in the warm rays, she sighed contentedly. She blinked open her eyes, the brilliant bright sun blinding her momentarily. She yawned and stretched, rubbing her flashy albino eyes.

"Take your time..." Mudkit mumbled grouchily. "Yada Yada Yada". CricketKit responded, swiping out a quick paw to cuff Mudkit over the ears. Mudkit pounced lightning fast onto her, pinning her to the dusty clearing ground.      "Gotcha!" Mudkit purred with triumph. CricketKit slumped and Mudkit stepped back, grooming his dark brown sleek fur.

CricketKit rolled her eyes "show off..." She murmured. Mudkit flashed his olive eyes her way, still grooming himself "you're just upset you always lose." He stated confidently, stretching and curling on a sun-baked rock.

CricketKit sighed, slowly walking away, mumbling that one day she will beat her proud brother in a wrestling match. Mudkit was larger than her, and he used that advantage every time CricketKit started a wresting match. However CricketKit had one helpful advantage, her long strong legs which she used as a defense tactic against her proud brother, Mudkit.

As CricketKit gazed around the clearing aimlessly, kicking a smooth pebble she heard the rustling of the camp entrance. Marblepaw and her mentor, Sweetheart padded into camp each dropping a fish on the fresh-kill pile. At the sight of the fish on the pile, CricketKit's stomach rumbled. when would her mother get back?

OliveBranch, CricketKit's mother, went back to doing warrior duties when CricketKit and Mudkit were old enough to eat fresh-kill. She left her kits with Sleekfeather in charge of them. Cricketkit and Mudkit both had to wait for OliveBranch to return to eat, which felt like an eternity due to the Kit's growing size and seemingly bottomless stomachs.

CricketKit glanced at the camp entrance, waiting for OliveBranch to come through any moment. The kit closed her eyes tight chanting in her mind a spell to cast her mother into camp, fish and all. Her eyes snapped open, of course her mother was not there. She sighed after no luck and trotted off to find Marblepaw so she could ask her as many questions about the river and forest as possible.

CricketKit shuffled to the apprentice den, beneath a low hanging bush. She poked her head into the branches to find no one but Wildpaw, crouching in one of the nests closer to the back, which was shadowed quite densely by the bush's lush branches.

Wildpaw was a shy tom who was always sick and skipped warrior training almost every day. OliveBranch had told her that it was very rare for a calico tom to be born and Wildpaw was one in a million. Sadly, every calico tom was born with birth defects, and Wildpaw was always having breathing problems or a random sickness. CricketKit didn't think it was special to be sick all the time but she shrugged it off.
