My cape clung to me, protection against the refreshing air, the cool, a welcome feeling. Walking through the alleys to my apartment, everything seemed new. Enticing. I took many unnecessary turns not only making sure I wasn't being followed but also soaking in the feeling of it all.

When I got to the door I paused, the key almost in the lock. It's been over a month since I'd been here.

With that realisation still ringing in my brain, I pushed the key in and opened the door. I spun around in the main space, taking in the sight of my home. Then I felt eyes on me and gasped as I kept turning and someone was standing there.

My dagger was in my hand before anything else. Stupid sentiment clouding my brain. I could've died because I wasn't aware of my surroundings.

The person stepped out of the shadows and I sighed. But apprehension was traded for confusion. "What are you doing here Nathan? How do you even know this is my place?"

Then I noticed the blood dripping down his arm which he was making no effort to stop. It was running down his fingers and dripping off. "You're bleeding on my carpet!" I yelled, rushing him into the bathroom.

I pulled out everything I needed and cut the arm of his suit off. As I started to slowly heal the wound, I interrogated him.

Nathans POV
She was asking questions but I wasn't listening. I couldn't get the image of her spinning, looking truly happy and at peace, out of my head. The look in her eyes is the way I wish she'd look at me. She really has no idea, the effect she has.

She was looking at me. Waiting for an answer to questions I didn't hear. "What?" I asked dumbly and she rolled her eyes before repeating the questions about my arm. "Ashton stabbed me trying to get to you. It's fine really, he didn't get too deep" She looked at me with a mix of disbelief and shame. I knew she probably thought it was her fault.

Once my wound was healed we went out to the main space and started getting the blood out of the carpet rug.

"So, why were you here? Of all places" She asked once we'd finally finished cleaning the rug.

"Oh um, I was just" God dammit, I should be able to come up with a lie in a second. "I was" I sighed, giving up and deciding to just tell the truth. Mostly. "I came to find answers. You disappeared for a week and I got told nothing. I know that's standard practice but I don't care" I whispered the next part: "And I missed you"

I waited for her to react. For her to betray how she's feeling. But she stared at me plainly, as if trying to fully consider my words.

Raina's POV
He had stunned me into speechlessness. I kept my face blank as my heart did somersaults, stupid butterflies threatening to burst from my stomach.

I knew he was waiting for a reaction. "Nathan. You broke into my apartment - which you shouldn't know about by the way - because you missed me? All while almost bleeding out!" My face was angry but my tone betrayed how feigned that anger was, giving away my amused disbelief.

The tips of his ears went red, the only sign he was embarrassed or flustered. He rubbed the back of his neck and had the audacity to look sheepish as he answered "Yeah?". I almost snorted at the lameness of his reply.

We descended into a comfortable silence and I couldn't help but be glad it wasn't awkward anymore. Nathan took a step forward and my heart rate increased. Before he could do any more I stopped him saying "Nathan you're friendship means so much to me. Truly it does. But I have to know that I'm not a burden to you. Also you know that's all it can ever be. Friendship. No matter how much either of us wants otherwise."

His eyes fell, resignation taking over his features but he knew I was right. As guild members we couldn't risk it.

"Also I'm taking the class back." I said, changing the subject "Joseph's going to talk to you about it tomorrow. I just thought you'd like to know.." I trailed off.

He nodded, gratefully going along with the change and continuing the conversation. "They're looking better" He offered and it crossed my mind that he'd been teaching them harshly to help me when I returned.

"Well I should, I should go" Nathan said, rubbing the back of his neck but making no move towards the door.

"Yeah, you probably should" But still, neither of us moved.

***

Later that night, the coffee I originally intended to make was drunk. As was the extra one I made for Nathan.

Nathan had fallen asleep on the couch after my insisting that it was too late, too 'dangerous' for him to go back to the guild.

Despite me trying not to burden him with my friendship, we always ended up drifting back together. So much for the stone cold killer being back. I thought as I laid a blanket out in case he got cold.

A/N
This is one of my favourite chapters. Just my favourite two characters not in life or death situations where they just get to be cute. Also, this chapter shows a little bit of a softer side and I think its smth we need
