Third person POV
Ashton burst through the guild doors, panting as if he'd sprinted a mile. He rushed towards Joseph's office with a stressed look on his face. But Raina wasn't with him.He barged through the door to Joseph's office, dropping straight to his knee saying "It's my fault. Sir, she's gone. She was captured and it's my fault." Joseph lowered the dagger he'd raised when Ashton barged in and understood what Ashton was saying instantly.
"Ashton. Stop. Tell me what happened. Up. Sit and explain" Joseph ordered, taking the calm approach he had to when something like this happened. Ashton got up, still panting but trying to take deep breaths to calm down.
"Raina got captured." Joseph struggled to keep his cool. "Yes, you said that. You've done this before so pull your head out of your arse and tell me, in detail, what happened" Joseph said, stressing the word detail. "Ok. So, we were going through the lobby in our regular clothes and of course some guard had to pick on us. So I answered his question, but he started getting suspicious and Raina got ready to fight meaning I did too and then all hell broke loose and weapons were everywhere, so were fists and stray legs and it was a total mess. But while I was distracted, Raina must've seen some guard going to attack me because she jumped in and got stabbed almost straight away and right when she'd healed, a bag got pulled over her head and she got dragged away, screaming at me to leave her."
Joseph sighed. Ashton was a mess, speaking way too fast and using a few too many hand gestures. As he went through the information in his head, connections were being made and he started going white. "Too similar, this is all too-" He muttered under his breath, stopping himself to question Ashton further.
"Ashton, listen to me carefully. Did you see any guild symbol or an association logo or anything?" Ashton took a few moments in silent concentration before shaking his head. "Why? Who do you think it could be? Someone that we've fau..?" But the end of his sentence faded out as he started to make the connections Joseph already had.
"Sir, you don't think- Not that guild- 4 years-" Too many thoughts were swimming through Ashton's head and he couldn't string a coherent sentence together but Joseph understood anyway and nodded solemnly.
*Flashback from Ashton's POV*
Raina, Nathan and I were crouched in a less-than-roomy vent, waiting silently for the thieves to show.My legs were cramping and my mood was soured by the time they got there. Raina seemed to be talking to Nathan non-verbally. She looked like she recognised the leader without seeing all of his face.
They searched for the poison that we'd gotten first. As they went through the third box we circled around the 5 of them. But one of the idiots saw us and with a quick, verbal game of ruby dagger sheath, Rain and I took 2 and Nathan only faced one.
They were strong opponents, but with weaknesses that became apparent once they started getting a bit tired. With their weaknesses exploited, I finished them off and turned to help Raina and Nathan because they were both still fighting. Raina had one opponent slumped and bleeding and she was fighting the leader. Nathan was only just starting to overcome his opponent.
Right as Raina was about to strike the final blow and kill the leader, one of the men I'd taken out threw a dagger. I gasped and tried to deflect it with my dagger, but missed and it scraped along my forearm. The commotion distracted both Raina and the leader from their fight. As Raina glared at me, the leader recovered and spoke into an earpiece.
Within seconds, people were swarming around us, separating me from Raina and Nathan. Someone swiped at me and with my arm still healing I couldn't deflect or block properly. They hit me in the side with their small sword and I cried out, directing my healing to my side, forgetting about my arm.
I was being surrounded more and more as I tried to heal and focus my vision. My arms were grabbed and forced behind me, even with my struggling and escape attempts. As I helplessly tried to escape the rope that was being secured around my wrists I saw a small guild symbol - 3 crossed swords with some letters in the hilts.
I could hear Raina and Nathan struggling. As a bag was forced over my head, I shook away and pivoted to the general area where I could hear them. The last thing I saw before they managed to get the bag on was Nathan holding Raina back from trying to get to me.
***
It was the 9 longest, worst days of my life before I was rescued. Once I was, Raina was sent on a mission to kill the leader of my captors. It seemed personal to her and Joseph but I didn't understand why until I learnt who he was.
He was Frank Macabre, an ex-guild member who was involved in quite an incident a few years before.
*End of flashback*Third person POV
Both Joseph and Ashton were white as ghosts. That was 4 years ago, after the first incident with Frank, and Ashton still thought about how hard Raina was struggling against Nathan to save him, even though they'd hated each other.Joseph had snapped back to his regular self and was business as usual. "She had her earpiece in right?" Ashton nodded adamantly, recounting how Raina had flailed to remind him that it was there. Joseph sat back, resting his hands over his stomach looking very satisfied when he replied "Good. Now we wait for her captor to find and destroy it"
***
Word spread through the guild about Raina's capture and everyone was waiting for news on what they could do to help. No matter how liked the person was, the whole guild would be on stand by just for a chance to get them back. That was rule 2; your guild is your family.
It was a few hours before a signal was received. Raina's earpiece had been discovered and destroyed. "We got it!" Joseph announced to the assembled people. Said people were Ashton, Nathan and Leo who was the communications man. They were all cramped into one signal room in the guild and with 2 of them being over 6 feet it was quite squishy.
Leo shoved through the assembled people so he had room to track the signal to its exact location.
It took him an hour and a half but he managed to pinpoint the exact location of the signal. It was a supposedly shut down complex that was around 45 minutes away from the Kateroll building and on the edges of town.
"Great! We have to go get her" Nathan exclaimed, rushing to move while everyone stared. The tips of his ears went red when Ashton cocked an eyebrow.
"Calm down. We have to take some time to plan. We're no use to Raina if we storm in there and get ourselves killed straight away" Joseph said, the authority clear in his tone. Nathan looked frustrated but knew Joseph was right.
Leo left to spread the word and Joseph Nathan and Ashton migrated to a sitting room to plan.
***
After a few hours and enough coffee to kill a child, they'd come up with a sufficient plan.
A small team would be sent out to the complex to scout the guards and other necessary info. On the team would be Nathan, Ashton and two other top assassins in their late twenties. The team would be on a stakeout of sorts until they had enough information to safely be able to get Raina out. Then, when they got back - assuming they did - the information would be used to come up with the best plan to safely and stealthily get Raina back. With the plan made, another team would be sent out, composed of the original team plus 2 others. They'd have to take into account that Raina was most likely to be injured and would need help.
