Chapter 001

All those you've once cared for and held dear are now dead. And any you will happen to meet in the future will be faced with the same fate.

That's the cold, hard reality of the situation. The same thing could be said for nearly everyone who has managed to persevere through this epidemic that has globally terrorized Teyvat.

Once a world filled to the brim with hope, prospering countries, and powerful leaders, it has now turned into a hell that left no remnants of said previous world.

It was sudden when the virus broke out; just a normal day of routinely living. News wasn't quick enough to travel the world before every country had already experienced its casualties due to the outbreak. People that were once dead, sprung back to life. They groaned and could form no proper sentences, but they could walk on their feet just like any other human.

Their skin was drained of life and colored dull grays and dark purples, and even if they had severe injuries, they would travel as if they weren't there to begin with. Their jaws would hang open and saliva would drop from its teeth to the floor, cleanliness a thing of the past as they only craved one thing.

They wanted the taste of human flesh.

The only meat that seemed appetizing to them was a human's, as they would ignore both domesticated and wild animals. These creatures were dubbed the name 'Zombies' as they bore a striking resemblance to the creatures with this name in ancient folklore and tales.

And these zombies were heartless beings that took away all those you once held dear. The day you lost the people you were closest to, you were alone. And that night was the start of it all, not even going a full day of 'survival' when these people were gone before your eyes.

On some days when you'd survive a zombie attack, you'd regret it. You could have escaped this hell; it would have already been over. But the fear in the moment is what stops you. Every single time. How it must feel to get your flesh peeled off by crooked teeth, how your screams of agony would only encourage the zombies to bite harder, and how blood would squirt out of your wound uncontrollably.

And if you were to survive the initial attack with a small bite, you'll still be forced to suffer. The infection from the saliva that traveled into the open wound on your body would spread, and after thirty minutes, whether alive or dead, you'd spring back up with life different than the one you once knew.

There's no coming back from a bite, this isn't like the books where you can stop it from spreading by severing a limb. It's over once that bug makes contact with your innards.

It's abnormal and it spreads far too quickly, which is what makes it so deadly. It spares no one and shows no mercy for the weak, only allowing the strong to just barely survive.

You've survived in this hell all on your own for a year, since the beginning when the outbreak first began to spread. And although some days you just want it to be over, the better days remind you that you just want to live. And so, you will. No matter what you have to do to survive.

You swung your feet back and forth as you sat at the entrance of your 'home', a treehouse that you had thought was a genius place to live. It was located in the outskirts of Inazuma city, and you were sure some wonderful family built it for their kids to play in. You kept it well maintained with the windows boarded up to stay heated and the inside painted and decorated with your dream items you took from shops that were left abandoned.

Bugs would often crawl in through the crevices, but there was not much you could do about that since your workmanship wasn't the best when it came to altering the structure of the treehouse. It was built on a high, sturdy tree that led you to believe the children that used it must have been at least attending school with the amount of trust they should have with climbing up that high of a ladder.
