Kazuha sat and played music on his leaf, lightly blowing into the side as his fingers danced along the indents to produce an airy song. Your head was rested in his lap, your eyes closed as the music transcended the real world to invade your dreams. The images of your thoughts became vivid and the atmosphere freeing from the song that flew into your unconscious state.
These past few months alone with Kazuha has no doubt brought the both of you closer. This silent type of intimacy was common; you two were far more comfortable with physically interacting and expressing how grateful you were for one another. You both enjoyed your days together in one another's isolated presence, even if it was spent in silence with Kazuha writing poems in his notebook and you reading a book you would pick up on your travels.
You had been sleeping on and off all day today, resting on the balcony of a two-story building as you both enjoyed the cold air while wrapped in your blankets and taking the day to mentally heal and prepare.
As you woke up once again with a large yawn, you stretched out your limbs, arms raising out and legs stretching forward. Feeling the movement in his lap, Kazuha pulled away the whistle from his lips as he looked down at you with a smile. You blinked a few times before the sun shining down on you quickly helped to wake you up fully, your breaths calm and still despite being able to see Zombies wandering in the distance.
Mindlessly, you began to talk, your tranquil voice ringing out without much thought since you wanted to hear Kazuha's voice.
"I know there's other people out there thanks to you, but it feels like it's just us in this world," you remarked.
A small huff fell from Kazuha's nose, amused at your words. He pulled the grass whistle away from his lips and held it in one hand, the other descending to make contact with your head. He lightly threaded his fingers into your hair, making circular motions into your scalp as he admired the way you looked up at him.
'I wouldn't mind if it were just us two...'
'Because...'
Kazuha's lips quirked upwards into a smile.
"Yes, it does. Just us."

Leaving the safety of the house you both were resting in took a lot of mental fortitude. If it were up to you, you would stay locked up in that small room with him forever. You lightly chewed on the bottom of your lip as you thought about how life would be if you just decided to settle somewhere with him.
'We could fence up a yard and plant fruits and vegetables, maybe by the outskirts of a town with a river flowing. We would be set with not having to replenish our supplies if we just made it all from scratch.'
You glanced over at Kazuha, who was oblivious to your stare as he looked straight ahead with a neutral expression. Your shoulders rolled as you shrugged to yourself a smile unknowingly forming at your lips while you continued to get lost in thought within that scenario.
Resuming the thorough inspection of the village to see if there were any signs of Kazuha's friends being here was draining. The shops were ransacked as they always were, the houses had Zombies clawing ferociously at the wooden barred windows as you passed, and the streets were occupied by the occasional wandering Zombie. You both thoroughly explored all of the settlements within the area, but couldn't find anything.
Kazuha looked pretty upset as you declared to search the next place. His hands laid limply at his side as his head angled away from you, not wanting to show you how disappointed he was. He would turn when he felt a warm sensation envelop his hand, looking down in surprise to see you sliding your hand into his.
