Chapter 009

As night approaches once again, you and Kazuha seek shelter. Since you were in yet another village, this one being a smaller one than the past you've been to, you've decided not to camp outside with the portable tent. Instead, you stay in one of the supply buildings you both looted, finding the most secure place in the building as you normally do.

This one in particular had a back room like the one from Konda village. You work together to push heavy objects in front of the door to lock you two inside, never slacking when it came to your safety.

Winter is here. It's freezing outside and the cold air frosts over glass and makes the grass crunchy and stiff. You bite your lip as you shivered, cursing under your breath as you continued to set up the makeshift bed. Your clothing bundled together to form the pillow and your large blanket laid tangled on the ground. You quickly straightened it out before slipping under, bringing it over your face as you sighed into the fabric.

Turning your head to the side, you looked over at Kazuha, who was searching through his bag.

Realizing what he was looking for and remembering why he didn't have it, you both said "Oh" out loud in sync. He glanced over at you as you lifted up the end of your blanket.

"You can come share my blanket if you'd like," you offered. For some reason, even though you had the best intentions, you felt your face heat up and a shyness overcome you.

Kazuha looked taken aback, a pink hue dusting his cheeks that wasn't visible with the darkness in the room.

"If you don't mind..."

He crawled over towards you and lifted up the edge of the blanket where your fingers were, and you retract your arm as you let him come under. He fixed the pile of soft items to where his head could rest, while you assist him with your hand in an awkward angle. You pulled the blanket up higher and shimmied closer to him as he closed the blanket down, covering the both of you from your feet to your necks.

The added body made it so much warmer to be under.

He laid his arm out and you both instantly relaxed after the initial nervousness wore off. You lifted your head slightly and he snaked his arm behind you as he turned to his side to face you.

You laid your head back down onto his arm and turned your body to the side to face him. When you turned, you could see his lidded, gentle smile, and you felt your heart skip a beat.

After a moment of silence, Kazuha felt the need to break it with words of appreciation. "I must thank you." He whispered. "This is the safest I've felt since this whole thing began."

With a voice as quiet as his, you replied,

"Me too. Thank you, Kazuha."

"For?"

You smirked. "For nearly getting mangled by a zombie and allowing us to meet."

He shook his head lightly and smiled. "Haha... thank you for saving me."

You felt your face heat up further hearing his laughter. With a mesmerized stare, your eyes travelled all over his face. From the hair that covered his ears, to his red gem-like eyes, and to his pretty pink lips.

Is it wrong to think about how badly you wanted to kiss him?

He silently watched the expressions you made while lost in thought and how you stared at him. He felt his heart rate increase, his eyelashes fluttering repeatedly as he blinked and thought over if he should make a move.

"[ Name ]... this is a weird question, but..."

He swallowed nervously as you looked into his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. The way you stared at him made his stomach do flips. He truly thought you were a very attractive person both inside and out-- he's had for some time now. And as the days alone with you passed, he felt his grip on his feelings unravel.

You two held eye contact as he asked, "...Can I kiss you?"

You blinked in disbelief, your heart dropping in a way you couldn't describe. Your fingers played with the ends of the blanket before you pulled it upwards and over your head, bringing Kazuha under with you.

"Yes, please," came your welcomed response.

He felt his heart drop in a pleasantly surprised way. He didn't move for a moment, allowing both of your eyes to adjust to the darkness under the blanket.

He kept his left arm beneath your head so you could continue to lay comfortably on it. He then lifted his right arm, pressing his rough fingers on your hip as you inched even closer.

Kazuha smiled as his hand trailed up from your hip to your face, wiping away stray hair to clearly see you.

Your bodies felt so hot from not only being so close to one another under the blanket, but because the intimate moment was making your hearts beat infinitely fast.

He leaned forward and you felt him gently press his lips against yours. The soft flesh pushed against one another; this touch far more intimate than any you've ever had with him before.

Both of your eyes closed, and your hearts were beating noticeably, the muscle moving your chests up and down repeatedly. When he pulled away and opened his eyes, he couldn't help but to stare at you with a fond expression.

He couldn't believe he just did that and you agreed to it. He would be doubly surprised when the weight on his arm was lifted, and his lips were captured by yours again.

You chuckled, breaking the kiss on accident as your lips pulled upwards. You moved away and rested your head back onto his arm.

Kazuha's expression turned aloof as he normally had it, calm and collected as he stared over at you. He lifted his hand up and angled it behind his head, curling two of his fingers between his hair tie and sliding it off to leave his hair loose.

He leaned forward and met his lips with yours once again, this one less sweet and swift as he pushed against you. He held it for a few more seconds than the last two before he broke away, making both of you breathe heavy to catch your breaths.

You looked at him in shock, feeling your cheeks swell with a blush from his actions as your heart skipped a beat.

"[ Name ], feel free to decline, but we could go further if you want."
