He patted my head. »So you're not sure, princess?«

»Then what am I?« I asked, happy that finally someone can see me, but also slightly concerned that I am speaking with a complete stranger in the middle of the night. Plus, she seems to be a weird old lady. Maybe she's one of those who kidnap children to cut out their guts after they ate all of the delicious food she gave them.
»You're doomed, my child, you're doomed.« Like I said, she had lost her mind. If I weren't already dead, I would've sprinted away. Actually – no I wouldn't. I would've sprinted away only after eating all the delicious food she made for me. I really don't like food going to waste.
I blanked out the horror movie that my head cinema was playing and concentrated on her words. After all, she was the only one who could see me. Maybe she had some magical abilities and could help me so that my friends could see me too. »Can you be a little more precise about the ›you're doomed‹ part?«
»You violated the rules of life and now you're paying the price.«
Oh wow, thanks grandma. Now I know exactly what you mean!
»Why? Because I died?« The frustration made it self visible in my words. How would I have broken these dumb rules? And most importantly: what even were the rules?
»No,« she replied calmly and by turning her head to me, I could get a glance at her eyes and... They were white?! »you neglected your fate by tricking your own death.«
»Huh? But Reggie, Alex and Luke also died and they can see each other and can be seen by that Julie girl,« the words literally poured out of me and I didn't take a break to breathe.
»My child, you are now comparing lemons to oranges,« she sighed, turning away from me to admire the splendor of the moonlight, »you took your life on your own and as for them... they were killed.«
»They were killed?!« I gasped for air. »No, no, they were not killed. I was there. I saw how they ate those damn hotdogs. There's no way they could've been murdered. I was with them the whole night.«
»Oh yeah. You were there. But have you ever thought about why only your three friends had died because of the hotdogs and the others, who ate the same hotdogs, didn't? Don't you think that's... suspicious?«
I looked at the moon, absorbed its beauty, while inwardly I was desperately searching for words, for explanations.
»But they made the hotdogs themselves. How...?« I couldn't bring myself to finish the question. I could hear the joyful voices of the people on the beach only muffled. My thoughts –no I – found myself back on that day. In the place, with tear-soaked face and fear of losing my three idiots.
»Do you not believe in magic?« I was shocked by hearing the amusement in her voice. How could she make jokes when we were talking about my friends...
»No,« I said fiercely. »I do not.«
Wait- How did she even know my friends? How did she know how they died? Who was she?
»Believe me, you will eventually. Oh, I've strayed from the topic at hand. Actually, I was here because of you and not because of your band members. I just wanted to tell you that no one will see you because of your punishment. However there will be one person who will be able to see you. If you don't hurry, you will miss them. This is the last chance we are giving you.«
»Who's ›we‹ and how do you know-«
Before even being able to finish my sentence, she waved at me and vanished. What the actual fuck was that.
Thanks old lady for the vague information. Now I have to find someone while not knowing anything about them. Neither their age, their gender, their looks or at least their name. Even if said person is able to see me, I would probably never know if they were pretending not to see me. Because who the hell would admit to be able to see a ghosted ghost? Or even a ghost in general.
