Nereus and Doris my Mom and Father had a 100 daughters the very oldest two were Amphitrite who had married Neptune she had lovely red hair and gorgeous light green looking tail her image is below. I was with my twin looking at the pictures of my younger sisters. She had very earthy colored seafloor sand tones for her skin.
She married shortly after the oldest Princess Thetis was sent to Thessaly to marry the hero Peleus to whom she would soon birth Achilles. The others were shocked that she would curse her child to live an immortal life he didn't ask for by dipping him into the Styx river but she was stopped before the process could be finished thankfully. Princess Thetis' younger mermaid look when she lived under the Aegean sea.
What happened at the wedding was even funnier than that, all the Greek gods and goddesses were invited except for Eris the Goddess of Discord outraged at such an oversight she brought a golden apple for the fairest one of all. Hades was quite entertained at this chaos because Eris was his next door neighbor and he did not dare scold her. She was the Guardian Goddess of Tartarus the realm below his. They were practically besties. Juno, Venus and Minerva fought over the prized apple. The others roared with such hollow laughter. I cannot say she didn't deserve it Thetis had always been a bit stubborn to all her sisters and Father included she didn't want to be married off and Nereus did not like the idea of a son of his daughters being stronger than him. So he sent her away from the Aegean sea and arranged her marriage to Peleus the actions that Eris caused on their wedding day set up the ensuing Trojan War later on. The Evil Queen maybe famous for offering a red apple to someone, but unfortunately Eris did it first to cause crazed discord amongst friends and family alike. Amphitrite though once she met King Neptune she fell in love with him and his talent of the Sea calliope she did not refuse him like Thetis first originally refused her own suitor and hid herself for a full entire week before she was found once again and told to follow through with her Father's decision. She was made to agree and accepted her land home. Amphitrite stayed in Atlantica with Neptune and there she gave birth to Triton and one of her youngest court choir members was absolutely no other than the later to be Queen Athena, Ariel's Mother. Amphitrite knew the goddess Athena for which Athena had been named for would be so proud of her new mermaid friend, the only bestie she had dwelling right next to her in the city of Atlantica.
