One can never be grateful enough for all the blessings one has in his lifetime. This is what Fallon Dela Fuente thinks of his life.

Why not when he's got an almost perfect life: His family is well off enough to buy him everything he wants, a brain that earned him a slot in a fairly prestigious school, and a father who does not really restrict him as long as his activities are not extreme. Maybe because his mom died when he so young, his father always indulged him. His father is more of a pal than a parent.

That is the best thing in his life if he's to choose one. His dad is a friend that will forever support him in anything that will make him happy. He still can recall the day he came out to his dad. When he told him he's gay, his dad was quiet for a few moments, just looking at him seriously. He was scared and felt like anytime his dad will explode. However his dad gave him a small smile and said: "Thank you for letting me know, son. Dad loves you no matter what"

However an almost perfect life is not guaranteed to stay that way forever. A moment and everything can change. Everything that you thought you had, can disappear just like that.

"Ano bang sinasabi mo dyan? Alam nyo naman na dumidikit lang ako dun para may taga gawa ako ng assignment and other schoolwork at alam nyo na, material benefits na nakukuha ko. Ma pera eh. Pero sa totoo lang nasusuka ako pag nakadikit sa kin. Mabuti na lang patapos na ang school year so I will not have to see his face for a bit." He heard his boyfriend Peter told his friends.

(What are you talking about? You know I only got close to him so someone will do my assignments and other school works. And of course, you know, material benefits. He's loaded but the truth is I feel like throwing up when he's near me. Thank God, the school year's almost over so I will not have to see his face for a bit.)

Peter and his friends then loudly laugh. One of them asked: "Pero pano mo pala nalaman na type ka ni Fallon? Bukod sa hindi halata e hindi naman nya outright inaamin na bading sya."

(But how did you know that Fallon likes you? Aside from it not being obvious, he never admitted that he's gay.)

"Ang totoo nyan mga pre tinimbre sa kin nung isang barkada nya. Feeling close daw si Fallon sa kanya, panay bigay ng kung ano ano, inaaya sya mag sleep over pero nayayabangan daw sya kay Fallon dahil lagi pinapamukha na mapera sya. At dahil feeling close nga e na i-share sa kanya na may gusto nga daw sa kin."

(Truth is one of his friends tipped me off. He said Fallon treats him as a close friend, always giving stuffs, inviting him for sleep overs. But he thinks Fallon is always bragging that he has lots of money and he hated that. And since Fallon feels like he's a friend, Fallon shared that likes me.)

He heard someone from the group sort of defended him but did not hear it clearly, Fallon focused on turning away before his welled-up tears falls down.

He asked permission from his teacher adviser to go home early because he's not feeling well. When his adviser saw his pale complexion and red eyes, she gave him permission immediately.

He drove around while crying. If he went home without stabilizing his emotions first, his dad will surely worry. So, he drove for what he feels like hours then stopped at an outside parking of a mall and just sit in his car until started to get dark.

When he got home, tinanong nya ang kasambahay nila kung nandiyan na ba ang daddy nya. He really wants a friend and a parent right now. (asked if his father's already home)

"Oo dumating na. May bisita sya sa office nya. Gusto mo ba maghapunan? Akyatan kita sa room mo?"

"Thank you ate Lisa pero masama pakiramdam ko. Matutulog na lang muna ako."

(Yes, he's home. He's entertaining a visitor in his office. Want some dinner? I'll send some to your room?

Thank you ate Lisa but I'm not feeling well. I'll sleep first.)

Fallon walked up the stairs and as soon as he reached the landing, he heard quiet voices on the slightly opened door of his dad's office.

"Pagsabihan mo pare si Fallon. Hindi naman pwedeng ganun na lang sya." (You should reprimand Fallon a bit, he should not be like that.)

"I don't know pare, sometimes I feel like it is my fault why my son is like that." He heard his dad says.

It was like thunder in his ears. Fallon cannot bear to hear anymore. When he entered his room, he numbly washed up, changed clothes, get into bed and blankly stared at the ceiling

About an hour later, his dad knocked and called his name. He had to swallow repeatedly before he can answer.

"Dad I'm not feeling well po. I think I'm getting the flu. I'll sleep it off and maybe I'll feel better when I wake up."

"Are you sure you're ok Fallon? Medyo paos ang boses mo anak. May I come in?" (Your voice sound rough.)

"No dad baka mahawa po kayo. Really, I'm ok. Dahil lang po siguro magkakasakit ako kaya paos. Uminom na po ako ng meds." (No dad, I might infect you. I'm really ok and I already had some meds.)

"OK anak."

Although his eyes are already dry, he feels like he's been crying for hours. But it was really several hours after his dad left that he was able to sleep.

The next day, wearing a face mask, he purposely came in late. Fallon looked for his class adviser to talk about ending his school year early.

"Ma'am since we already had our finals and I have submitted all of my deliverables, may I request po to not come to school until graduation?"

The teacher frowned at the request, "Any reason Mr. Dela Fuente?"

"I am currently really sick ma'am. I have a fever right now and I'm gonna need I think several days to get well. Also, I have applied for a university in Manila and I have to fly there next week to prepare and submit documents and look for accommodation." he purposely scattered a few coughs while saying his reasons.

Although he originally decided to be in this same school for college to be with Peter, he did apply for a couple of universities in NCR and he was able to pass the entrance exam for those univs.

"Well I thinks it's all right for you to skip a few days but you have to come back at least a couple of days before graduation. You have to take graduation photos, process your clearance and any other requirements before you graduate."

"Thank you so much ma'am. I'll go ahead ma'am, I feel like my fever is getting worse, I think."
