The ride back to Ricky's was silent. Not an awkward silence, but a bit of an odd one.
Vinny was eating his McDonald's, and Ricky was listening to some metal music, which was actually quite good.
My eyes were becoming really drowsy, and I just closed my eyes to rest them, unable to stop myself from slipping into a dreamlike state.

I continued to glance at Valerie beside me, wondering why a man would ever do such a thing to such a bubbly and kind-hearted woman.
When I saw them arguing, I felt in my gut that something was terribly wrong, but that punch to her face proved it all.
I was about to offer her my fries, but I was stopped when a weight fell onto my shoulder.
My eyes travelled to where she lay, and I felt so bad. Her mop of black hair spread over my shoulder. She looked so peaceful. I can't believe she had to fight that man while being so tired. Her hair was messy, and dark eye bags circled her eyes. Her skin was paler than usual as well.
"Damn it, Valerie," I quietly chuckled, running a hand through her long hair.
We soon arrived at Ricky's and both got out; while Ricky grabbed her bags, I carried her inside. She was quite light.
On the way in, she snuggled further into my chest, making me feel weird things. My knees felt weak. What the heck?
"When is the bus getting here?" As I returned from my room, I asked Ricky. I placed Valerie in my bed for the time being so she could be more comfortable and get enough rest.
"At 11, is she alright?" He asks, grabbing a monster from the fridge.
"She should be; I'm going to grab some ice for her. Man, I really dislike this whole me faking being sick thing, just so you can all meet her. It seems a bit excessive." I sighed, dragging a hand over my face.
"Are you kidding!? You are never interested in any girls; everyone thinks you're just too immature to have a girlfriend! But ever since you guys met when she came over, you have changed, man!" Ricky chuckled; he seemed happy for me. I ignored the comment on my maturity, though I can't deny the pain I felt.
My face went slightly red; I don't know why, but I just feel so attached to her.
"I am not interested in her in that way, Ricky! And we actually met before that. We hooked up in North Carolina since we hit it off pretty well. I was so shocked to see her on my drum set when I got back the other day."
"Wow, that is surprising. It's a small world," Ricky laughed, chugging his monster.
I went to grab Valerie some ice, and I placed it on her face, where a dark bruise was already forming.
"I'm going to go lie down for a bit, Ricky; wake me up at ten thirty. See you in a bit," I told him, who was lying on his couch.
"Leaving me all by my lonesome?" He pouted jokingly.
"Oh, shush. You'll live without me. You're not a child," I replied.
"In all seriousness, make sure you apologise for being a dickhead the other day," Ricky lectured me.
"Well, maybe if I wasn't lying about being sick, I wouldn't have had to be," I said, rolling my eyes.
I went to take a nap on my bed, but not before putting on a mask. I made sure she had enough room and that I wasn't taking up the whole bed.

I was surrounded by softness. It was warm and comfy, and I eventually opened my eyes, which widened with shock once I saw Vinny laying next to me.
