THE NEXT DAY

Ash POV

"A World Coronation Series Battle Challenge has now been issued. A World Coronation Series Battle Challenge has now been issued." My rotom phone chimed, buzzing in my pocket.

"Sorry, Goh. I'll be right back." Goh had been sitting on a bench, scrolling through his Pokedex. He looked up when I spoke. "It's fine Ash. Go battle."

I leapt up and went to find the challenger.

Apparently this person was really far in the woods or something, because I couldn't find them anywhere. I walked and walked, but I couldn't find them anywhere! (Yes, I know it was repetitive) Their silhouette on my phone looked really familiar though.

I continued looking around until I ran into something.

Someone.

"Chloe?" I said, looking at her. She had her phone in her hand, and it was reading the Battle Challenge screen as well.

"Wait you're in-?"

"No, Ash. I did a temporary entry, and I used it on you. What it really was for was to get you away from Goh."

"Why do you want to get me away from Goh?"

"I want you to see what he does when you're not around."

"Does he do something bad?"

"No. I just wanted you to see how much he cares about you. Also, his ringtone for you is great. Wonderful, even. I'll tell you when to call him."

"Okay."

"Oh, and after you do call him and hang up, I want you to start running in a bunch of zig-zags, all through the woods, till you really can't find out where you are. Then, just walk. If you hear someone coming closer, start yelling for Goh- but go in the opposite direction of the voices responding. Okay?"

"Ummm... Okay."

We both pressed exit on our Battle Challenges, and we quietly went back to where Goh was still sitting on the bench.

We watched him for a little while as he eventually got bored with looking at his Pokedex.

"Ash, where are you?" He said aloud, and I was really tempted to answer him- but Chloe clasped her hand over my mouth before I could even open it.

He sat there, tapping his hands on the bench for a while. He had left Grookey at the lab- and Cinderace and Inteleon were in their Pokeballs. Goh evidently didn't want to bring them out to play, because he left them in their Pokeballs.

He eventually got up and began walking back into town. Chloe motioned for me to follow her, and whispered, "I'll go on ahead. Just watch. Oh, and silence your phone- but call him when you feel like it's time."

She bolted ahead and slowed down when she neared Goh. Then she deliberately bumped into him.

"Oh! Chloe! I didn't see you there."

"Sorry Goh-"

"Hey, have you seen Ash? He went to accept a battle challenge and he hasn't come back. He's been gone a long time and I'm worried..."

"Don't worry-"

I pressed the call button, and a sweet sound emanated from Goh's phone. He scrambled to grab it.

The sound coming from his phone was wedding bells. "Awwww..." I whispered, holding my hand over the mic.

He pressed answer.

"Ash? Where are you?"

I wiggled my fingers over the mic, creating a lot of static. I wound up rubbing it on my shirt too, to make a more fuzzy static.

I pressed the end button and put my phone away. I hope the static was believable.

Goh POV

I heard the beep of the phone hanging up.

"Chloe, what if he's hurt, or lost? He might need help-"

"Goh, I'm pretty sure he's fine. If you're that worried, go call Officer Jenny to use Manectric to sniff him out. And if you're worried further, call me."

"You know what? I'll do that."

She began to walk away, waving goodbye. As soon as she was out of sight, I phoned Officer Jenny.

"Hello? Vermillion City Police Department, ready to help."

"Hey, Officer Jenny-"

"Are you the boy that helped me out that one day? With the other boy, Ash?"

"Yeah, but Officer-"

"Hello! This is so nice to talk to you again-"

"Officer Jenny! I called for a reason!"

"Oh, sorry. Carry on."

"Ash is missing. He went to go and accept a battle challenge, and hasn't returned. I was wondering if you and Manectric could come and find him?"
"Don't worry, I'll be right there."

It took her maybe ten minutes to come over, but after she was there, she was quick.

"Come on Manectric. We've got to find Ash."

She looked at me.

"Do you have anything that belongs to him?"

I fingered my collar. It was Ash's shirt- he had given me another one- but it probably had lost his scent by now. It was really soft.

"I can bring you to the place I last saw him."

"Well, that might not work. But we'll try. "

I began walking, with Officer Jenny behind me. It took maybe a minute or two for us to get to the bench, but once we were there, Manectric found Ash's scent immediately. It must have recognized it from the time we helped out.

Manectric began bounding after what I would assume to be Ash's scent. After about twenty minutes, I heard yelling.

"Goh! GOH!"

It was Ash! "ASH!" I yelled back, hoping he would hear me.

When he called again, his voice was farther away.

"Goh!"

I began following his voice, ignoring Officer Jenny telling me to stay with her.

His voice was nearer.

"Goh!"

"Ash!"

I began running, calling his name until I heard footsteps that were not my own.

"ASH!"

"Goh?"

I saw blue through the trees. I slowed down to catch my breath, and said, "Ash."

I saw the blue turn. It was his jacket. Now he was coming towards me.

Within a second it seemed, he was beside me.

"I got lost."

"I know you got lost. Come here."

I wrapped my arms around him, holding him tight. (Yeah, Ash felt a little guilty after going along with Chloe's plan, but afterwards, it kinda brought the two boys closer together, so I think that was what she was going for. )

Officer Jenny and her Manectric came bursting out through the trees. "Oh, you found him!"

Ash nodded, smiling at her.

"Come on then. Let's get out of these woods."
