The weather sure is nice today.

A gentle breeze was blowing through my hair as the sun shone brightly over the morning purple sky. There wasn't a single cloud in sight, and the air was cool and crisp. It was a perfect time to tend to my garden.

Y/N: Alright, let's get to work, Y/N.

I got down on my knees and began pulling out the weeds that had rooted themselves into the ground over the past few days. My garden wasn't large per se. It only had an area of around 100 square feet, but it was more than enough garden space to sustain me with food year-round.

Even after all of these years, I'm still amazed at how my life turned out like this. From a nobleman's son to a Star Guardian, and now, a reclusive hermit. It's funny how different my life is now compared to back then, not that I'm complaining or anything.

Before I became a Star Guardian, I lived a luxurious yet monotonous life as the second child of a powerful Japanese noble family. However, despite living a life only a few could ever dream of at the time, I felt no joy or happiness in living that kind of life.

I felt trapped by the expectations my family had of me. I had no identity of my own or a sense of purpose in my life. I was nothing more than a political pawn for my parents; an asset used to further their goal of getting more power. My life was never mine to control the moment I could walk, and everything had already been planned out by the time I could remember anything. At age three, I already had a fiancée, and by age five, I was beginning to learn about the arts and swordsmanship. Each time I stepped out of line, my parents would scold me, telling me how I was ruining their efforts at securing my future, and to not ruin our family's honor. It was suffocating, to say the least.

However, that all changed on my eighth birthday when I met him; an orphaned farmboy from the outskirts of my village. At first, we were rivals, often getting into fights over the dumbest things but after we worked together to protect one of the village girls, and then each other, from a visiting nobleman's son and his entourage, we became best friends and became inseparable from that point onwards. Everything felt brighter and happier whenever I was with him. Even after we both became Star Guardians, every day was a blast, and not a day goes by where I don't think about him or our childhood together.

Y/N: Come to think of it, how long has it been since we last saw each other, old friend?

Even though we've long parted ways, I can still remember how he would always help me slip past my tutors and take me to the hill overlooking the village, and how we would just lay there all day, daydreaming about our future under the tranquil blue skies.

I hope you're doing okay out there, wherever you are.

???: Are you thinking about him again?

I jumped at the sound of the voice speaking to me and looked to my left, where my familiar, a golden and blue dragon named Ao Shin, was floating beside me with a curious expression.
