Chapter 6 : Protective

"So... do we all agree on it ?"

Akshara, Abhimanyu, Neil and Riya were sitting together in the cafeteria, discussing about the assignment and were deciding to work together somewhere.

"I do." - Akshara and Abhimanyu said in unison and looked at each other in surprise.

Neil and Riya passed a secret smile among themselves looking at the duo.

"But, where should we gather ?" - Riya asked.

"It should be somewhere not crowded please. I like to study in silence and peace." - Akshara said earnestly, causing Abhimanyu to smile at her cuteness which was again, noticed by Riya and Neil.

"Well... I have an idea." - said Neil, looking at the trio.

Abhimanyu looked at his bestfriend, frowning.

"See, it's obvious that we would have to study after classes that end at 4PM. So we can head to anyone's room and start the assignment together. What's say ?"

Abhimanyu's frown disappeared, as his mind agreed with the plan Neil gave because there was no other place where they could study together.

Actually there were, but there was no other 'peaceful' place according to Akshara's wish.

Despite agreeing with his bestfriend, he remained silent. Waiting for Akshara's agreement or disagreement.

"I think it's the best option." - Riya said, nodding along.

Akshara turned her head towards Abhimanyu, to find him already looking at her.

"Are you okay with it ?" - he asked gently.

If she had not been so immersed in trying to decipher the soft look in his eyes, she had noticed the jealous stares of all the girls sitting in the cafeteria. Because according to them, Akshara was the luckiest girl ever due to ABHIMANYU BIRLA looking at her like THAT.

"I am." - the words left her mouth automatically.

"Me too." - he said smilingly.

Neil and Riya leaned back in their seats, their eyes on the duo who was currently in an eye-lock.

"Do you see what I'm seeing ?" - Neil asked Riya in a low voice.

"I do." - she replied with a smile, her gaze on the would be *cough* couple *cough* ahead.

"So it's decided then. After classes in Abhi's room." - Neil said loudly, breaking the trance in which Abhimanyu and Akshara were lost and grabbed their attention.

When Neil's words registered to Abhimanyu's brain, he raised a single brow in askance.

Neil smiled sweetly before replying :

"Your room will be the most suitable since you live separately and it has a lot of space."

Abhimanyu glared at his bestfriend, knowing fully well that he was taking revenge because he never let him share the room with himself.

"Okay." - Akshara agreed, smilingly, while Riya nodded along.

His head snapped so fast in Akshara's direction, that it looked like he had gotten a whiplash.

'She is okay with studying in my room ?' - he thought to himself, surprised.

She just smiled at him in return, making him smile as well.

"Who are you ?"

It was around 3 in the afternoon and Akshara was heading towards the library to pick up a book for reference to help them in assignment, when she was stopped in a corridor by a group of 3 girls, and the one in the middle asked that.

Akshara paused and took in her appearance.

The said girl's demeanor was screaming 'I'm superior', causing Akshara to dislike her in an instant, and her tone held an order, as if expecting that she should answer her anyway.

Akshara crossed her arms, and raising brow, replied :

"Human."

The pretty face of the girl morphed into an ugly scowl.

"Lame joke."

"Being human is a joke for you ? How inhuman of you!" - replied Akshara, smirking. Irritating her to no end.

"Do you have any idea who are you talking to ?"

"No. And am not interested in finding out either. I'm getting late and you're in my way." - Akshara said with a bored expression.

She stepped around the group to move ahead, not noticing that the arrogant girl surreptitiously dropped small glass balls on the floor.

She took a step forward and her foot slipped due to the balls, making her lose her balance. She closed her eyes in fear as she started to fall backwards but the collide with the floor never came.

She felt herself being held midway by a pair of strong arms, wrapping themselves around her waist, saving her from getting hurt. Opening her eyes, she found herself eye-to-eye with Abhimanyu. And once again, started losing herself in that intensive hazel gaze.

His eyes held such a deep concern as he looked at her, making sure if she was okay, that her heart started beating wildly.

He was so concerned for her ? But why ?

Straightening her up, he made her stand on her feet and after making sure that she was stable, took his arms off her.

"You okay ?" - he inquired gently.

"I am. All thanks to you." - she replied with a smile.

"Hi Abhimanyu..." - the girl with superiority complex, greeted him politely.

Akshara blinked.

Just a moment ago, venom was dripping from her tone, and now she was talking like honey. What the hell was happening ?

She then realized, as the girl started fluttering her eyelashes with a sickly sweet smile on her face, that she liked Abhimanyu.

"Hey Laila." - his tone looked like he was holding himself back from lashing out at her but Akshara didn't notice that.

Her mind was lost in other thoughts.

"I should get going... or else I'll be late for the class." - Akshara excused herself, making her way towards the library.

But the fact that she herself was unaware of, was...

She didn't want to see if that girl, Laila, held any effect on Abhimanyu.

As soon as Akshara was out of sight, Abhimanyu turned his head towards Laila and started moving forwards, causing her to move backwards until she hit the wall. Laila would've felt lucky at their proximity if she had not been at the receiving end of his deathly glare.

"You have done it today and consider yourself lucky that I'm letting you go." - his voice was dangerously calm, sending chills down her spine.

"What did I-"

"Oh stop acting innocent! I know you caused Akshara to trip! You just can't digest the fact that you're after me since the day I have stepped into this uni and I've not even paid you a single glance, while she came here barely 8 or 9 days ago and is my center of attention already." - he said smirking, causing her face to flush with embarrassment.

"This is my warning to you Laila. If you tried to cause her harm in ANY way, you'll face the consequences by ME. And you know WHO I AM!" - he said in a low voice, his tone malicious, making her gulp.

Glaring at her for a moment more, he stepped back and went away.

Leaving a scared Laila behind.
