Exactly at 7 AM, Abhimanyu's bedside table clock went off. Waking him up from his deep sleep.
A sleep, that he had after 12 years.
Smiling softly, he spread an arm out to bring Akshara closer but when only a sheet met his hand, he frowned and opened his eyes to find himself alone in bed.
He sat up with a jerk. Looking around the room for any sign of her but in vain. Her clothes were gone as well.
Or were those even there at the first place ?
"Have I dreamt it all ?" - he thought aloud. Running a hand through his hair in frustration.
But then, his state of undress registered to him, making him realize that he had not dreamed everything that happened last night.
'Where is she then ?' - frowning, he got down the bed putting on his jeans, and searched the room. Bathroom. But found her nowhere.
She left you. Like your mother.
He froze in the middle of the room. The thought arresting his entire existence.
Did you really think that you're worthy of love ? That someone's gonna stay with you until the end ?
His body gave up and he fell on his knees. Tears started to form in his eyes, and he was on the verge of breaking down when the door to his room opened and in stepped...
A smiling Akshara.
~
It was 6:49 in the morning, when Akshara started to wake up from a beautiful dream. Smiling, she opened her eyes and the sight that met her eyes, caused her smile to brighten.
Abhimanyu, sound asleep, with a calm smile on his face. She brought a hand up and put aside some hair fringes from his forehead.
'He is so calm while sleeping as compared to-'
She stopped her thought there. A blush appearing on her face.
'... as compared to last night ?' - her brain completed anyway. Causing her blush to deepen.
After last night, she was sure of one thing; Abhimanyu was an incredible romantic and passionate person. And he was not a least bit hesitant to show it through his actions.
Her sore body screamed in agreement.
'Okay Akshu, stop blushing now!' - she thought while biting her lip and slowly got up from the bed, as to not disturb his sleep.
Quickly wearing his tee, she grabbed her clothes and silently left the room. Thankfully, it was early and she was able to make it to her room without being seen. She thought for taking a warm bath to ease out her sore muscles but postponed it for later. Thinking, if Abhimanyu woke up and didn't find her in the room, it would give him a wrong message. So quickly getting changed into a casual floor length light pink gown, she grabbed two pills for headache, fully knowing Abhimanyu would be having after drinking the tank of wine last night, and headed back to his room.
Smiling brightly, she slowly opened his room door so that he doesn't wake up if he was still sleeping.
Although, her smile faded and dread engulfed her when she saw him in the middle of the room, on his knees and a haunted look on his face.
"ABHI!"
Running towards him, she dropped to her knees as well and cupped his face in her dainty hands. The tears in his eyes felt like a stab to her heart.
"Abhi... what happened ?" - she asked in the softest tone possible while wiping the tears that fell from his eyes.
He didn't say anything. Just kept looking at her with big innocent eyes. As if, making sure that she really was there. And then... he hugged her tightly.
"Pleaseee don't leave me. Please please please Akshara... Don't leave me like Maa... I'll die..." - he kept whispering while squeezing her in his arms.
She froze at hearing that.
'Like MAA ?' - she thought, a crease on her forehead appearing while she reciprocated the hug.
"I woke up and didn't find you here. I thought you left..." - his voice broke and she heard the sound of something breaking inside her.
"Oh Abhi..." - she cooed softly, caressing his back until he calmed down.
When he went quiet, she pulled back and stood up. Making him stand as well. Taking his hand, she moved towards the bed and sat with her back to the headboard.
"Come here." - she tugged at his hand, making him lay on the bed in a way, that his head, rested in her lap.
"Now listen to me carefully. I am in NO way, leaving you. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't. You know why ? Because I love you so much Abhi. I can't even express it in words. Erase any such thought from your mind that I will leave you or whatnot. You are stuck with me okay ?" - she said, while running her fingers through his hair softly.
His eyes were drooping. As if, drained of energy. But he was forcing them to keep looking at her.
"You are tired Abhi. Sleep. I'll be right here when you'd wake up." - she whispered, looking into his eyes.
"Promise ?" - he asked in a whisper, resembling a small child.
She bent down and kissed his forehead. Lingering her lips for a moment.
"I promise."
When she pulled back, she saw his breathing had evened out. Sound asleep like a baby. She kept running her fingers in his hair. Lost in her thoughts.
His reaction at her absence had made her worried. And his words...
'Don't leave me like Maa...'
She frowned. Remembering his words when she had woken him up from the sleep before their first kiss.
'Maa! Don't go!'
And then Dad's words...
'What Abhimanyu did was wrong Akshara. But he isn't to be blamed for it. He himself is a victim.'
All these things, pointed towards two things :
Abhimanyu had went through some really painful things in his past.
And it involved his mother.
She looked at Abhimanyu again. Her eyes softening further yet her face gaining a resolute expression.
She would find out what had happened with him. And would set him free from his past shackles.
Free, alive and happy.
