06 || Tough Love

The ground rumbles and everyone starts to scream and run everywhere.

I know what this feeling is but I just never thought I would ever experience it.

I felt panic run all throughout my body as I watch my parents make their way to grab my younger siblings and keep them still and together.

Chase and I followed as the earthquake starts to slow down and I can't focus on anything as I try to gather my thoughts.

I could hear other people screaming and crying and I wondered why this was happening only now.

I have lived here my whole life and I have known about the earthquakes I just never thought I would be able to experience it.

I watched my family for a few moments and when the earthquake stopped,everyone else ran to their cars and I heard them drive off.

Some of them stayed to thank my parents for the party and then left.

I can understand how this could be scary for some people,especially my younger siblings.

But it wasn't for me.

For some reason thing like this kind of excite me in a way.

It gives me a different feeling that I've never had before and I somehow want to experience it again.

My family got up and we all made our way back towards the front of the house to get inside.

I unlocked the door and my parents stopped Chase from walking back upstairs.

"Chase wait. We need to talk as a family right now" my dad said.

Chase came back down and we all walked into the living room to sit on the couches.

"So we're going to start from the beginning and work our way down to what just happened" my dad said.

He motioned for Chase to sit across from him and once he sat down my dad finished what he was saying.

"As you both know by now,we have decided that you and Cassidy are going to help Aaron's grandfather with his work. It won't be for too long just long enough to help him get to where he needs to be then you'll both be home" he said.

I really didn't want to go but I knew we didn't exactly have a choice,so I prepared myself mentally for us to have to pack at anytime.

I took my phone out of my pocket and made sure to write notes for everything I would need.

My parents talked to Chase about the kind of work that Aaron's uncle might have him do and he seemed a bit excited for it.

When it was my turn to know what I would be doing my younger sister tapped me.

"Cassidy,you might be doing the work inside of the farm. Gathering the eggs and things like that. Nothing too hard but you might have to clean the pigs as well. I don't know for sure but just be prepared for anything" my dad said.

I don't know how to do any of those things but I know how I can learn.

Just as my dad was about to say something else,the doorbell rang.

My dad got up to go see who it was and Aaron walked in..again.

I rolled my eyes and sank back into the couch scrolling on my phone with my headphones in my ears.

Aaron came and sat right next to me and I could feel myself getting angry all over again.

I pulled my headphones out and glared at him.

He smiled and put his arms on the back of the couch behind him.

"I would like to personally invite all of you to dinner at the Cafè. Just your family and myself. I will pay for everything,this would just be a treat for everyone" he said.

I felt like he was planning something so I was about to say no when my dad spoke up.

"We would love that. And at what time do we need to be there" he said.

Aaron smiled and stood up as he looked at his watch.

"7:30 would be fine. I have to set everything up then I will be waiting at one of the tables outside" he said,walking over to the front door.

My dad walked with him and they talked more before Aaron walked out of the house and dad closed the door.

This is going to be a very long night..
