When Nina's shift was over she immediately drove straight home. Her father had rules set for her since she was the mere age of nine years old. She was to have his dinner finished as he came home and not a minute later, the house was to be spotless in case he ever had to bring co workers over.Sometimes it seemed like he could find a non existent mess somewhere just so Nina could get punished.
Another rule that may sound absolutely insane is that Nina isn't allowed to eat near her gate her. He says the sight of seeing her eat makes him lose his appetite all together.
Nina also wasn't allowed to hangout with friends, date or really go anywhere but work. Back when she was in school it was the same rule but with school so she had no friends. She was a loner and even considered a mute throughout her educational years.
That's why she feared what her father would do if he ever discovered she was friends with THE Evan Buckley.
Before Nina properly met the boy he had been on the news here and there with his team. She could recall her father scoffing in disbelief as he'd read the paper about the younger firefighter. "I wouldn't trust him with my life thats for sure." He had said with so much distaste as Nina simply say there not saying anything back. Nina never spoke because when she did that would be another punishment if it wasn't her agreeing or giving the man an answer when he actually wanted one. Even then it was yes or no father never anything personal or more.
As Nina got home she cooked dinner and cleaned the entire house as she did. She swept and mopped the floors, cleaned all the laundry, dusted all the top shelves and untouched book cases. She even cut the small yard, cleaned the sinks toilets, showers. She prepared the beds folded the laundry and wiped down the kitchen table and counters.
Nina was exhausted but it wasn't a new feeling this was her every day. On her days off it was better because she wasn't strained on time and it wasn't like she had much to do unless Buck wanted to see her.
She'd only ever see him briefly and they never really went out or anything crazy they'd just meet up and have a quick chat or bite to eat and part ways.
There were times Nina noticed how he looked dejected when she'd turn down his offer to go to a bar with the 118, or go to watch a movie he was excited about. With Abby gone he craved some form of being normal and going out to do fun things.
Nina craved to do normal things to but she was still restrained.....
As Nina finished all the cleaning and the stew was finally done in the pot she set it to keep warm before looking at the clock. Her father came home whenever he wanted, sometimes drunk and mean or drunk and tired. Rarely sober but when he was those were the worst days, because all his pent up frustrations from work were inflicted on her.
