"Here, this will keep you warm." Kitty wrapped the boy in a coat and a scarf she had picked up from town. "There." She smiled at him, but he only frowned.
"Why are you kicking us out?" She rocked back onto her heels and clicked her tongue in annoyance.
"You're a blunt one arn't you?" She sighed. "Corazon and I are not on good terms." The boy raised an eyebrow. "I can take the coat back."
"No, thank you." He looked away, pulling the coat close and sliding the bag onto his back.
"Be safe." She ruffled his hair and placed his hat on tightly. As she adjusted the clothing, her eyes fell on a white patch on the boys cheek. With a confused glance, she ran a finger over the patch, trying to remember if she saw it the night before. "Ros-" She corrected herself. "Corazon, I left something in the kitchen, can you help me?" The man nodded and followed the girl into the kitchen. She motioned for him to but a barrier up. He followed her command.
"Now you want to talk to me?" He tried to lighten the mood, but it quickly fell to an awkward stare down.
"Who is the kid?" She crossed her arms, ignoring the question, and looked him in the eye for the first time in a long time. The man didn't answer, he just stared back at her. "Rosi, who is the kid?" He fell to the nickname she called him in their youth.
"Trafalgar Law." He mumbled looking away from her. Her icy eyes dug into his skin. "From the WhiteCity."
"The WhiteCity?" Kitty was wide eyed. "The WHITECITY?!" She was almost yelling. "You're dragging a kid from the white city around in this?" She motioned to the window. "Are you fucking crazy?" He could see her fluster.
"I'm trying to help him." He was weak and finally showed it to the woman. He leaned on the counter and pulled off his pink hat throwing it on the ground, running his hands through his hair and pulling them down his face in frustration. "Kitty, I don't know what I'm doing. I thought I could help him, but I obviously can't." He sighed and looked away from her. "I came here for your help. You're the only person I could think of." Tears welled in the man eyes. "Kitty, please help me."
She sighed and leaned on the small refrigerator behind her. Her mind danced again. All at once she was forced back into her past. The man she once loved was in front of her, even though she vowed to never see him again, crying and clearly in pain. The defeated look on his face made her question her own anger. "Rosi," she ran her fingers through her hair, causing her hair to fall into her face. "What do you need?"
"I don't know." He chuckled in defeat. "Kitty, I don't know." He slid down the wall, eventually falling to the ground. "I don't know." He cried into his hands.
Kitty watched the man cry and felt a ping in her chest. She did love this man at one point in time. Her eyes danced back to the boy standing in the other room, he watched them speak- he watched him cry. She clenched her jaw and looked back to the man on the floor, he had gained some composure but was still defeated. "You can stay until you figure out your shit." The man looked up to her.
"Really?" The words came to a shock to him. Just the day before she had tried to take is head off with a small blade.
"Again, I'm not doing it for you." She stepped over his legs and made her way back into the living room. "Law." She smiled weakly. "You're going to stay here for a while." The boy smiled.
"Really?" She nodded helping him take off the layers she had piled on him. He jumped and hugged her tightly. "Thank you." She was taken a back from the hug, but accepted it wondering just how long they had been traveling.
"Go get comfy." She patted his head. "I'll make something to eat." He nodded and went to sit by the fire with a book he picked off the shelf.
Kitty smiled to herself, but it slowly fadded as she looked back to the man in the kitchen. Living with the kid meant living with him. She frowned realizing what difficulties her decision would cause her.
