The school week had begun once again, soon enough it was Wednesday, the day you considered the best day of the week. When the weekend officially started.
Yet again you had sacrificed your afternoon to spend with him. This time you sat and half heartedly pretended to be interested in volleyball. Well less interested in volleyball and more interested in him more than anything. The sheer strength, focus and determination he carried in his facial expressions were a large telltale of the physical strain of the sport.
In due time they had begun with cool down stretches, cleaning up the gym and changing in the locker rooms. You had tried waiting for Tooru but he was just taking too damn long.
When you saw Iwaizumi walking out of the locker room you told him to tell that milk bread loving fucker that if he didn't hurry up you'd leave. Even after that warning he still continued to take his sweet time so you delivered on your word and left, walking towards the sports grounds by yourself until the strong presence of a person appeared behind you, unfazed you turned around and faced him.
"I told you I'd leave."
"Yeah well I thought you were joking because of your colourful word choice."
"That's a you problem then, does it take that long to change clothes?"
"Bruh, is it pissing you off that much? Damn you're impatient."
"I'm not impatient I just have better things to do."
"Like what, talking to me maybe." he teased once again but he was right , talking to him was a part of your day you looked forward to and he hoped that in your head you had agreed to his sentiment.
"What if I said yes?" you said while closing the space between the both of you, making sure to initiate eye contact.
He began to flush a subtle shade of pink but remained stone faced while extending his hands outwards to the small of your back to lessen the distance even further. Bringing you in close enough to smell the light smell of a mint gum he was chewing on not so long ago.
Your brain absolutely short-circuited and your chest heaved from the surprising move he pulled. He let you go shortly after with a light hearted tone of laughs followed afterwards. You were just itching to text the group chat about this.
Your afternoon chats took place like normal though in mush closer proximity than usual . He was slowly driving you insane and you weren't sure if he knew it but your heart knew it all too well.
It made you want to stuff your face into a pillow and scream into it.
Why did it choose him of all people? A guy with impeccable charm, quite good looking and no current icks present, sometimes you couldn't afford to have such taste in guys. It was detrimental to you, maybe that's why you weren't able to let go of Wakatoshi just yet. You just picked them too well.
The serene field hit by the orange hue of the afternoon sun was a hospitable environment for a budding romance. He had never considered sunsets romantic until these golden afternoons. Of where the warm light enhanced your sweet brown skin and deep eyes never failed to take his breath away. The way your tone descended from your louder more social tone into what be considered an almost melodic whisper but still as bubbly as ever.
He was truly in awe of you.
But again your afternoon had to come to an end as both of your family's cars drove into the school gates and you had to bid each other goodbye. The last thing you heard from his lips were a drawn out "Text me when you're on your study break."
You replied with a loud "sure " and flashed him a smile alongside a wave , your final moment and he had managed to make your heart flutter with joy once again.
It was a bittersweet feeling because you felt as if you would never have a chance, it made you want to bury your feelings deep down into pandora's box so you would never have the chance to unleash it's foul contents onto your heart.
He however was beaming through his face and eyes , another successful yet failed attempt at rizzing you up and finding out your dating status. Memories of you just were on rewind in his head and he loved it, he's loved the fact you had consumed his mind entirely but wondered why it took so long for this to happen, he's known of your presence for a reasonable time so why only now did he begin to like you when he had the least time left with you.
It's like he wanted to break his own heart. Of all times now was when he rendered feelings for you. He hated the fact he had such little time left with you but it gave him all the more reason to sweep you of your feet, to show you how he felt about you.
As the sun set over the horizon he leaned on the car window he gazed it at , remembering you.
"Tooru what are you thinking about?" Yua, his sister interjected.
"Oh nothing" he said and continued to ponder on about you.
