HER REVENGE

Chapter Six

After what felt like hours my brain finally sent the signal to my stomach that I was hungry so, I got up from my seat at the table and walk over to the front desk where the librarian is seated ,
"Um excuse me?" I say to which the old librarian looks up from her computer and up at me with a smile.
"Well hello there sweetie how can I help you?" She asks .
"I'd like to sign up for a library card please?" I ask to which she nods and searches along her desk before pulling up a small card.
"Okay so just sign this and then you are good to borrow any book you like," she says handing me the card. I quicky sign the paper using the pen atop the desk , then giving back the paper to her , I see her type something on her computer before looking back at me .
"Ok so is that the book you'd like to borrow?"
"Yeah,"
"Ok dear just give it here so I can write it out ," I give her the book and then she later returned it to me , and tell me I was free to go. With that I leave the library and start walking looking for a restaurant, after walking around for a while until somehow I made it out of town , to where I find a small diner called 'Twitties' , cute name qnd with that I walk inside the diner, as I entered a bell above the door rang making eyes turn in my direction and thankfully there weren't many people inside. Only an old couple, and group of elderly men reading the newspaper.
I walk over to one of the stools and sit down. When a blonde walks ove to me .
"Hello there sweetie pie what can I get'ya ?" She asks me , I look over at the menu , maybe a waffle sandwich and an iced tea drink.
"I'll go with the waffle sandwich and an iced tea please," she gives me a nod before going in the back and later returning with my food. I only manage to eat half of the sandwich before I was full, and then I drank the juice . I look up to the clock and it read 3:05. Great! School should've ended by now .
Just as I turned to ask the blonde girl for a call she was gone and aanother lady was standing in her place. The lady was wearing a tag with "Marva" written on it , she smiles at me .
"Well hello there sweets , how are you ?" Her voice was sweet and homey I liked it, I returned it .
"I'm great , how re you?" I reply .
"Well that's great hun , I'm also great, by the way , I've never seen you around town before, " she says loking at me confused.
"Oh yeah um, I just came back was away for a while,"
"You know you look like someone I know , um her name is Melinda, Melinda Crawford," mentally rolling my eyes I smile at the sweet lady.
"Yeah she's my um mom," I tell her to which her smile widen.
"Oh sweetie your brother and my son are great friends, wait that means , you're the daughter who was in Switzerland?" , so they've been telling everyone I was in Switzerland it seems .
"Yeah that's me," I reply,
"Oh well honey I'm Marva , and this is my diner," my mouth forms an 'O' shape at the realization.
"Well nice to meet you Marva , um by any chance could I ask you for a call , I need to call Joshua," I ask .
"Oh honey that's no problem here you go," she says handing me her phone . I take it and dial the number on the card. After a few rings it picks up .
"Hello? Mrs. Carlos?" I hear Joshua's voice on the other end.
"No Josh it's me,"
"Oh Clary why are you calling me from Mrs. Carlos's phone?"
"Well I don't have a phone remember?"
"Oh so what's up?"
"Well I was wondering if you could come pick me up I'm at-"
"Twitties, yeah we go there all the time I'll be right over," and with that he hang up .
"Here you go , thanks and could I get the check please?" I tell Marva handing her the phone .
"Oh don't be ridiculous , it's on the house , and hold on one second," before I could say anything she was gone to the kitchen , a few seconds later she returned with a small box .
"Here you go honey, it's freshly baked chocolate cake," she says handing me the box. I shook my head pushing the box back to her , to which she smile.
"Don't worry about it honey , consider it my welcome home gift , by the way your family and my family are very close ," she says , persistent I see , after considering it for a while I finally took it from her hand.
"Ok fine but only this once," I tell her to which she laughs . At the sound of the bell we both turn our heads to the door and there was Joshua .
He walked over to us with a smile , "Hey Mrs. Carlos , I see you've met my sister,"
"Oh yes I have and she's such a sweetheart, " at this I start blushing. It's nice getting compliments from adults. The two talked for a while before Josh turns to me.
"Ready?" He asks to which I nod and jump from the stool, yes I'm short .
"Bye Marva , I'll be sure to come by again, " I tell her to which she smile and wave at me . Joshua takes my hand and lead me out the diner and toward his car . I try to open the door key word here being tried as my hands were filled with the book and the cake. Joshua as if sensing my distress came over and opened the door and laughed. This little piece of shit had the audacity to laugh at a woman in distress.
"Yeah fuck you too asshole!" I shout to him once he reaced the other side of the car , to which he just laughed harder making me roll my eyes and sit in the car grumpily.
Soon after Joshua got inside smiling and turn to me , to which I roll my eyes and turn my head to the window , I could hear him laugh under his breath before the car start and we were off on the road heading back to town.
"Oh um well I was wondering if you wanted to come to football practice with me because well no one's home and I don't like leaving you alone and Well the practice doesn't last long just until 5 and you can ju-"
"Okay sure no problem not like I have much to do anyways, " I tell him with a shrug , to be honest the only reason I agreed was so that he would stop talking and worrying.
He smiles at me and soon after we pull up to a school with a huge sign reading "North Star High School" . He parks and exit the car before coming over to my side to open it for me .
"Wow what a gentleman, " I say trying to hide my smile.
"Oh I do try m'lady," he replies before we both burst into a fit of laughter.
He leads the way to the back of the school and to a big field where a few guys were training .
"I'll head to the bleachers, come get me when you're done," I tell him to which he nods and run off to the field while I make my way to the bleachers.
