I wake up on a sail that is slowly rocking back and forth. Gradually, it gets more aggressive until the waves are pushing the ship so hard that I fall off and into the water. This makes me jump up and after surveying my surroundings, I realize that it was a dream. "Wake up!" I turn to see a defeated Haida attempting to wake me up. After realizing I'm actually up, he sighs in relief. "I've been trying to wake you up for ten minutes now. You need to get ready." "Oh crap!" I stumble out of bed and into the bathroom to get ready as he advised.

I take a quick shower and walk out with a towel around my waist to go get my actual clothes. I walk into the room and Haida pauses, meanwhile my face is only getting more red. "Sorry I'll just step out," Haida says. "Yeah." That was really awkward. Anyways, I put on a simple T-shirt and black jeans. I walk out of the room and Haida is pacing back and forth, seemingly apprehensive about something.

"Hey, what's going on? You know you can talk to me about anything." "I'm just a little worried about how you'll adjust. I'm sure you'll do great, it's just that our boss can be a little difficult at times." "It's not really the boss you're worried about is it?" " He can be difficult, but no I'm worried about us." "Why? I got you and you got me. We can take this slow, there's no need to rush." "Thanks, I needed that." I give him a kiss on the cheek and walk towards the door. "Come on, you're driving." He stands there shocked, but snaps out of it and runs to catch up with me. We get in his car and pull off.

On the way there, Haida decides to engage in some small talk. "So, how do you feel about your first day?" "I'm gonna make the most of it." "Why are you so positive?" "Because you're with me." His face turns a deep red. When we get to the firm, I see someone I've seen before. "Um Haida, you go on ahead and I'll catch up with you. I can figure out the way." "Ok, I guess." Haida walks off and I walk over to that girl I saw before. "Hi," I say. She jumps and turns around doing this weird arm dance. I can't help but feel like this is some kind of distraction, a diversion of some sort.

Out of awkwardness I look down and see something I feel like I shouldn't have. "Um, hi." "So what was that about?" "Just felt like busting a move I guess." "Well anyways, I'm Y/N. It's nice to meet you." "Retsuko. Nice to meet you too." "Do you know where accounting is?" "Yeah, I work there. Are you new?" "Yup." "Just follow me." "Thanks." I follow her and she shows me where the changing room is and how to get to accounting. "You're a lifesaver." "Don't mention it."

I go into the changing room to meet Haida. "Found your way huh?" "This girl, Retsuko, she helped me, do you know her?" He stops and slightly blushes. "Yeah, she's one of my work friends." "You guys hang out outside of work?" "No, not really. Well, there is a work party on Friday, so it would be nice to see her there." I give him a suspicious look, but avert my gaze when he turns this way. "Anyways, are you going to come Y/N?" "Probably not, I'm not that much of a social person, and parties are really not my style." I finished changing and walked out with Haida.

I get to the accounting department and a face full of confetti. "Welcome to the office," The entire office cheered in an ecstatic fashion. I stood there surprised and a little embarrassed. "Well," said Ton in a questioning voice. "Thank you all, I'm so happy to be working with you amazing people." "Haida, you're in charge of helping the new guy adjust." "Yes Sir," he said. Of all places, I sit next to Haida. This is a nightmare. Not really, but come on of all the places. It was confusing at first but it was making a little sense eventually. "My desk is a pigsty! My vase doesn't have any freaking flowers and the humidifier is empty," said an agitated Ton. "Retsuko," the girl next to her says. "Huh?" "I'm pretty sure Mondays are your turn."

"I'm sorry Sir, I'll do it right now!" The speed at which she moved was almost superhuman. In under 2 and a half minutes, Retsuko managed to refill the humidifier, dust Ton's desk, and get him some flowers. "I guess if that's it then I'll start in on my work." "Tea." "Huh?" "Tea!" "Say what?" "I'm gonna need some hot tea. That's part of your job, 'cause it's women's work!" I stop typing and feel an intense amount of anger come over me. "Hey are you okay," Haida says. "I'm fine."

Retsuko comes back with the tea and it makes me even angrier that she has to put up with this. "Enjoy," Retsuko says. "Bleugh! There's no tea in this tea," Ton says. "Do it again, that was subpar," his teacher's pet says. "Nah, let her go, it's cute ain't it? Incompetent women are such a pain in the ass, but they're better than the competent ones am I right?" He and his pet start laughing and at this point, steam might as well be coming out of my ears. If there is one thing I hate, it's misogynistic assholes like him. I can't work anymore so I force myself to stare at the computer so I don't do something I'll regret.

Retsuko walks off and I can feel Haida's eyes on me with a concerned look. She eventually comes back and things return to normal. "That's pretty impressive," the girl next to Retsuko says. "Huh?" "If he'd spoken to me like that, I'd have told him where he could stick that tea." I like her fierceness. "Yeah, but I did forget to prep his desk so." "Don't be a wuss. Prettying up that mouth breather's workspace isn't in our job description. Can't he get busted for asking us to do that?" "I aM sO sOrRy AbOuT tHaT. I NevEr mEaNt To MaKe ReTsUkO fEeL tHaT wAy," an imitating Haida says.

I didn't actually see him get up, and I snicker at his joke. "Feed him some B. S. like that and he wouldn't even get a slap on the wrist. You'd be putting more at risk by reporting it. I don't envy you girls at all." "Call us girls again, I dare you." She's cool. "W-women, that's what I meant. But if you think about it work's no walk in the park for guys either. It can be tough for those of us who refuse to kiss up." "You kiss up all damn day." "Wha- It's not my fault the bosses like me."

"Oh wow Mr. Ton! Isn't golf just the greatest thing ever? Seriously," whoever this preppy kiss up is said. "Why don't you join me sometime?" "Really?" "Don't worry, I gotcha." "I need something to drink," the girl whose name I really need to learn said. "Me too," said Retsuko. "Uh huh," followed Haida. I can't be in this office with Ton anymore than I have to so I'm out as well.

I catch up with the group as they're walking. "Hi." Haida turns around a little surprised but happy to see me. "Hey Y/N." "Who is this," said the white fox. "Fenneko, Y/N. Y/N, Fenneko." "Hey. As he said I'm Fenneko." "And as he also said, I'm Y/N." "Wanna grab a drink with us?" "Sure." As we're walking, I notice these two ladies coming down the hall next to us. They look oddly familiar like I've seen them before or- It's those two ladies I met at the ramen shop! I didn't know they worked here.

The rest of the group was amazed by them, but I don't see it. They're some respectable women, but not that surprising. "Damn. Now those are two women who definitely have their act together," said the obviously awestruck Fenneko. "Look at 'em," said the staring Retsuko. "Gori is the marketing director, and Washimi is the president's secretary. They've got this place all figured out," said an amazed Haida. "Have any of you guys ever talked to them," I said confused at their amazement. "Well no," said Retsuko. "Nope," said Fenneko. "Ditto," said Haida. "Wow," I say dumbfounded.

We were all talking and laughing for a while on break. "Well, back to the old cell block," said Haida. "Why not," Retsuko said. When we got back to the office and turned that final corner, Ton was right there ready to pile Retsuko with work. "Have fun on your break? I need you to look over these. And I need 'em back today!" "You want some help," said a pitying Haida. "This is fine," said an extremely-willed Retsuko.

It was the end of my first work day and I was exhausted. I got home and I passed out on the couch. It was probably 7:00 so it was a little early but I didn't care. I could hear the door open around 10 and someone sneaks in. As he walked passed me, It was then I was gonna catch him in the act. "So what are you doing home so late," I say as I sit up. He jumps up shocked and turns around nervously. "Well, see, I was-" I cut him off with a hug. "Just tell me next time. I'm glad you're okay." He hugs back and we stay like this for a while. I give him a kiss on the cheek and walk into the bedroom since I'm not completely exhausted anymore.

I change into some more comfortable and lie down. I'm drifting off when I feel an arm wrap around my waist. "Is this okay? I c-can stop if you want me to-" "It's fine." The silence and stillness work together to create a peaceful slumber.
