Chapter Three. Part One
~One week later~
My bed had to be the best thing ever created, it was soft, warm, cosy and now wet. I bolted up right and saw the bucket which was being held in the hands of the perpetrator. I cursed slightly at myself thinking how I was starting to sound more and more like Steve than ever.
“What the…” I started. I shook the luke warm water out my hair and chuckled when I saw that I had covered Steve’s shirt in water also. “What was that for?”
“You didn’t get up when I shouted, so I thought some sea water would be good to wake you. it wakes me up every morning when I go for my swim at six” he smirked clearly enjoying himself. He set the bucket down beside the bed, “Don’t forget to put your sheets out so they can dry” he laughed exiting the door. I stared after him in complete disbelief I hadn’t even heard him calling me, looking outside I could see the sun high in sky as I stripped to go in the shower. A few minutes later, I reappeared in shorts and shirt with my hair plated back ready for school. It was my first day at this new school and I was not looking forward to it. I had never done well in schools, but it was one of the rules that I had to do well in school otherwise I would be over Steve’s knee again. I shuddered at the thought. I put my sheets in the bucket, carrying it all down the stairs so I could hang them up. Steve was in the kitchen on the phone, by the way that he was talking and what I could hear he had a case. Looking at the clock I had half an hour before we would be leaving, so I put the sheets on the line, then I went and made myself some breakfast.
“See you later Kai, I’ll pick you up at four okay?” Steve said just before I exited the car.
“Sure, see you later” I leant over and hugged him before getting out and walking up the steps to a fate I wasn’t sure off.
Steve’s POV
“Danny what’s up?” I asked as I reached Five-0 Headquarters. I walked through the building and instead of heading to my office; I went straight for Danny’s office.
“We have major problems” Danny ground out though gritted teeth, he got up and practically ran out into the central area.
“Slow down and tell me what’s happen,” I said grabbing him by the shoulders and holding him still. He had called me earlier and was freaking out down the phone about someone taking something of his or something like that, I could barely hear him over his breathing.
“She’s been asked out” I murmured looking absolutely terrified.
“What?” I asked confused.
“Grace, she been asked out” he whispered “by a boy” I looked at him completely confused until it finally clicked. Grace had been asked by a guy and Danny was freaking out. “It’s not funny,” he cried throwing his arms up in the air. I stared at him in disbelief, he was freaking out over the fact that his daughter was finally growing up and going out on a date.
“You do realise that this probably isn’t the first time she has been asked out, this is probably the first time that she has told you?” I laughed, tears where running down my face I was finding this so funny.
“W…what?” he stuttered, face draining of colour, I regretted what I said now. I don’t think I had seen Danny so scared he was like a deer trapped in the headlights.
“Nothing, this is first. It’s okay just take deep breaths and everything will be fine” I motioned with my hands to take deep breaths,
“Okay so I did a background check and nothing came up” he began pointing towards the TV screens
“What?! He’s sixteen years old if he had a fucking record I would have killed him,” I shouted narrowing my eyes “Parents?”
“Mother clear, but his father has a record for trespassing etc. by the sounds of it he was or still is a ‘peaceful’ protester.” Danny laughed clearly finding this amusing.
“Okay that’s not too bad” I admitted, “Have you met him?” I asked leaning against the computer table. I had known Grace since she first came with Danny to a football game; she was about nine years old and was gorgeous. Ever since then I had been Uncle Steve to her and was there whenever Danny couldn’t, if she needed picking up from school or he needed someone looking after her I would be there. It was hard to believe that she was going to be sixteen in a couple of weeks; oddly, Danny was chilled, but me, I was freaking out. I had never told Danny but Grace had become very much like a daughter to me over the last seven years and the thought of her growing up and moving onto new places and meeting new people who could potentially hurt her, scared the crap out of me.
“Yeah, I saw them walking through town together the other day when we were looking for that drug dealer” he laughed. I remember now he had been chatty and joking about one minute then the next he was all broody and grumpy.
“Ahh, so that was the cause of the mood change” I clarified
“Yeah, how was Kailee this morning??” he asked running his hands through his hair, this usually meant he was trying to clear his mind or that he was calm down, I figured it was both.
“Kailee wasn’t too bad, she wasn’t too enthusiastic about going to school; but then what child is? And even better well after I dumped a bucket of water over her” I chuckled thinking back to this morning. Kai was not a morning person so I had to do something, which would get her up without fail if I threatened it. I remembered when my training officer dumped a bucket of water over us from the frozen lake.
“What did you do to the poor girl?” he asked genuinely worried for her. Danny had taken a really liking to Kai since well when he first met her. He had felt something for her when we first found out that that bitch of a career was abusing her.
“Chucked a bucket of water over her,” I confessed with a smile.
“Jesus, Steve she’s not in one of your training camps” he scolded raising his hand as if he was going to slap me one the head but thought twice about it.
“I know, by hey ho at least she’ll learn” I concluded walking off to my office leaving Danny to do what he needed to do. I hadn’t been in my office ten minutes before my phone rang. “McGarrett?” I answered “She’s what...How bad? I’m on my way” slamming my phone down I legged it out the office shouting that I was going to Kai’s school to Danny.
Soo what ya think???
