Chapter Six

Hey guys, I know I haven't updated and I'm so sorry. But here it is. There is a problem though, if you have read this from the beginning fromt his 20/04/2013 onwards then ignore this and go read the chapter. However, if you have read before this you need to go back and read the chapters again because I have had a massive editing sessiona nand changed a fair amount, characters have gone and I have brought some back. So if you want to understand it you might wanna read from either the beginning or chapter four onwards, that is where it mainly changes. Sorry guys xx

Chapter Six.

***One week later***

 Kailee POV

I knew that everything was taking its toll on my dad, but he wouldn’t show it when I was around. It was when he thought I was looking or when he didn’t know that I had entered the room that I saw, that face. The face of loss, sadness, and grief everything all piled into one. This Catherine woman was driving him insane, he was so focused on her case so much, it had only been a few days but he had barely slept, barley eaten; the other day I had to get Uncle Danny to practically drag him out the house to get some food. I didn’t blame him though, this Catherine was the woman he loved and he still loved her; if it was me I wouldn’t stop either. I had been spending more time with Chin, Kono or Danny. Since it was, the school holidays I was at home all the time and my dad just wasn’t quite there to look after me or himself. Uncle Danny stayed a lot he would sleep on the sofa and then cook me eggs in the morning, he would always sing the song about ‘how do you like your eggs in the morning’ and It would make me laugh. When I stayed with Aunt Kono and Adam, we went surfing really early in the morning and caught some big waves.

                Today was one of the days I was at home, Uncle Danny had left this morning after cooking my eggs, he needed to go and get Grace from airport, she had gone back to Uncle Danny’s home to see her grandparents. I was cleaning up the pizza boxes from last night’s meal when the doorbell rang; I dropped the black bag and opened the door. A woman with black hair and big sunglasses stood on the doorstep.

“Hi” I smiled

“Hi, umm I think I have the wrong house, but I’m looking for Steve McGarrett?” she asked hesitantly.

“No he lives here. Dad!” I shouted turning my back to her. I heard her gasp and move away from the door. “Wait he’s just coming” but she ran, she ran away back to the car and drove off before Steve could get to the door.

“What’s up baby?” I turned round and saw my dad behind me; his shirt was crumpled and sleep lines crisscrossed his face. I had woken him up.

“There was lady at the door for you, but she ran when I called you” I mumbled, I didn’t know whether I had done something wrong.

“Did she say who she was?” he asked rubbing his and then his hair.

“No, she had black hair and really big sunglasses” I said proudly as I remember some of the stuff about her, I was really bad at remember stuff my maths teacher was always telling me so.

“What else?” he asked slowly.

“Umm, she wasn’t tall like you, she was tall like Uncle Danny” I said “oh and she had a really pretty red heart necklace” I said I was proud of myself I had remember everything about her. Most the time I couldn’t have cared less about what someone looked like, but dad was always telling to take my surroundings in and remember everything I could because one day, it could save your life. Though, dad look shocked and worried not happy.

“Catherine” I heard him whisper.

“That was Catherine, that was the lady that had gone missing and you were going to find her?” he didn’t reply to me, he just picked his phone up and called someone.

“Kono, Catherine is here in Hawaii. Can you find her?” he was speaking to Aunt Kono, I didn’t understand what was going on. That Catherine woman was here so why was Aunt Kono trying to find her still. “Okay call me when you get anything” he hung the phone up and looked at me. He was smiling now and he looked so happy.

“Did I do good?” I asked giggling knowing that I had.

“You did fantastic” he laughed loudly; he picked me up and swung me round under my arms he put me down after a minute pretending that I was too heavy, but I knew from what Uncle Danny had told me, he had lifted bigger things. “Did you know, you have just helped find a missing person?” he said in a matter of fact way. When he put it like that, I did.

“That’s cool, what do we do now?” I asked really getting into the whole thing. I could see that he was thinking.

“Now we go to the office and tell everyone, wait here I need to change” I watched him leave the room and then reappear a few seconds later with a fresh shirt on. “Let’s go” he hustled me out the house towards the car where we flew to the office with the lights and sirens going. Someone was in a hurry.

“Uncle Danny” I called when I saw him sat in his office.

“Hey squiggle, what ya doin’ here?” he asked as I sat down.

“I found Catherine,” I said proudly. Uncle Danny dropped his pen and stared at me. He suddenly became all serious and angry.

“Kailee you should joke about that, your Dad would go nuts if he knew you were saying stuff like that,” he scolded.

“But I have, she knocked on the door earlier and when I described her to Dad he said it was Catherine, so there!” I shouted storming out the room. He was calling me a lair and I wasn’t liar, never have never will.

“Steve is she being serious?” I heard him say behind me. Dad came out his office with his phone to his ear.

“Yeah, she came to the door but when I got there she was gone. Kai described right down to the red heart necklace I gave her for valentines,” he laughed. He was finally happy and I was glad I didn’t want him like he was before, I like him better this way.

“Jesus, have you got Kono and Fong looking?” Uncle Danny asked

“Yeah, I’m talking to then now, hold on” he pulled the phone down from his ear and pressed a button. “Kono you have Danny, Kai and me”

“Hey guys, so we have managed to use traffic cam footage to follow Catherine from yours to the Pali highway, but after the tunnel there is no camera. So we guessed that she is probably staying in a hotel or something and we might have it,” Aunt Kono said excitedly.

“Okay where is she?” Dad asked pulling me to his side for a hug, I had move moved to him and was going to hug him myself before he did, it was what I did whenever was scared, nervous or shy.

“She is right here” It was the same woman who was on the doorstep this morning. It was Catherine.
