Chapter Seven

Hey my lovely readers, I'm so sorry about not uploading in ages, time just seems to slip away. Here is a chapter that I started and then lost because it appently didn;t save, grrrr. Anyway, hope you like, things to kick off here ;)

Chapter Seven,

Steve McGarrett’s POV

“Catherine” I breathed. The women that had been the object of my dreams and nightmares for the last seven months, and previous to that, was standing right in front of me. “Where have you been?” I asked taking a few steps closer to her. Before I could get too close, Kailee grabbed hold of me, her small arms wrapping round my waist; I saw the look Catherine gave her before I looked down. “It’s alright Kai,” I whispered squeezing her back. When I looked back up at Catherine there was something odd about her, she was off and I didn’t understand why. It was like she was always in defensive mode ready to protect herself if anything came near her. “Kai will you go with Uncle Danny for me, I need to talk to Catherine,” I said crouching down so I was at her level. I watched her change from confusion to sadness and then of course, defiance.

“But I want to stay with you, I will stay with you” she huffed. This was the Kailee that I found hardest to deal with, even though she wasn’t biologically my daughter, she was more like me than I thought was possible.

“Kai, I need you to go with Uncle Danny, no arguments” I was serious now and even then, I could see contemplating going against me; but in the end, she sighed and nodded. “Danny take her for me” I passed Kailee’s hand over to the Detective who was still staring at Catherine. He took it absently minded and took her into his office, where I knew he would break out the pack of cards. “Catherine come with me” I said pointing at my office. She moved past me awkwardly keeping her front away from me, what was up with her? I nodded at Chin and Kono who were still stood watching and waiting for me to tell them what to do, after the nod they both moved into Danny’s office with Kailee, where I knew they would all keep her occupied.

                “What is going Catherine and why are you acting so weird?” I asked as soon as I entered the office and shut the door. I didn’t get a response, she didn’t even have the decency to turn round and face me. “Catherine!” I said more forcefully, hoping that it would stir something inside her.

“Still haven’t lost that dominance then?” she laughed, he head tipping back and her long black hair tumbling down her back.

“Never was going to go Catherine, you know that” I replied. “What’s going on? You disappeared for seven months and then suddenly turn up” I stated leaning against my desk. She finally started to move, but she didn’t turn to face me, I only got her side profile.

“I needed time to think, needed space” she replied cryptically. My God this women was so frustrating why couldn’t she just give a straight answer.

“Could you be any more cryptic Catherine,” I replied sarcastically. I heard her breathy chuckle and then watched, as her hand rested on her stomach, which I released was a lot bigger than the last time I saw her. “Catherine?” I questioned as I watched her turn to face me and then slowly undo the sweater she was wearing. I stared in disbelief at the swollen stomach, which indicated she was very, very pregnant.  

“You wanted the truth,” she laughed with one hand on her hip and then the other on her stomach. “I asked you seven months ago whether you wanted a family and you said no. I finally get the guts to come tell you that I am pregnant with your child and find that you already have one” she sneered. “But obviously you didn’t want a child with me”

“Catherine it wasn’t like that” I said trying to explain, I stood and moved closer to her trying to reach out to her; she moved away from me and held her hand up to me.
