I was content. I wasn't empty or numb.

Thoughts were nothing but passing images and sounds.

I existed in time, a fleeting moment in the vast universe.

I was nothing but a spec of dust lying in a field, a place that was everything and nothing at the same time.

I was still as the world spun and spun on its axis like it has been for millions of years and would continue to.

Rain speckled down onto the ground leaves captured its essence and let it inevitably fall to the ground. Light raindrops caressed my cheek, body, and soul.

Leaves rustled in the wind, and the birds sang low.

Deer's galloped through the high grass, leaving footprints as the only proof of their existence.

The smell of trees and earth was intoxicating. Wildflowers encapsulated the soul. The scent of rain and dampness flooded the nose.

Splashes of colors flew in the sky. Butterflies fluttered their wings.

Trees as high as the eye can see. The Blue sky was as blue as can be. Whites and a spectrum of blues mixed for this singular moment.

Light streamed through the sparse openings of the trees.

It was a masterpiece worthy of being called art. It was dream-worthy.

Then I woke up, and machine hums echoed through the metal room. Heavy footfall sounded louder than it was. Chatter flew up and down the corridor.

The silence was gone, my peace was disturbed, and I was not content. The greens and blues of my dreams were nowhere to be found. Instead, gray encapsulated the eyes, bleak and dull colors like a black and white movie. All four walls seemed to be closing in on me; the beloved span of trees and life was gone.

For a fleeting moment, I was home, a free bird flying amongst the sky and clouds, but now I was back on the Ark, my metal cage.

But not for long. Because Earth is a fleeting memory till it isn't.
