Chapter 24

Everything happened too fast. It's been a month since the embarrassing event that exposed Nadeem and Nathan's relationship. They were going strong. They still argued over things. Mostly Nathan is paranoid that Nadeem will lose everything.

Thankfully Nathan manages to keep his job. Nothing harm is being done to it despite what happened. Brendan keeps nagging him to tell the whole story about his relationship. Natalie, on the other hand, feels satisfied. Yes, her coworker did ask about the situation but nothing serious.

Nadeem received a divorce paper the next day after the event. That didn't appear to be a problem. However, they've been in a custody battle for the whole month now. So, yes, Scarlet is not his. But he did sign as the guardian for the kid. So, he did fight for it without overthinking the result.

"Nathan..."

Nathan looks at his best friend. They were already changing their uniform and ready to go home.

"God... I remembered that you're taken."

Nathan frown. "What is that mean?"

"I was about to ask you to join me to get laid."

Nathan rolls his eyes. That's been going on for this all time. Brendan sometimes asked him to go to a club.

"I don't want to get in trouble," Brendan commented before closing his locker.

"If you want it that bad, I could accompany you," Nathan said without looking at the guy.

"No, no, no." Brendan shook his head. "Your boyfriend looks like he could hire a yakuza to murder me."

Nathan laughs. "Silly. It's not like I could truly cheat. I know my limits. Besides, I can tell him so he will not be suspicious or anything."

Brendan sighs. "You know I have no other friend."

"That's why I offered this." Nathan shrugs and then closes his locker. "Let's go. I will join you."

Brendan stares at his best friend to make sure that he's serious before breaking into a smile. "Fine! I'll make sure you're not too drunk."

"Pfft!" Nathan rolls his eyes before start walking again. "You can't even make sure you're not too drunk later."

Brendan laughs and then puts his arm around Nathan's neck. It's true. Brendan does not have a close friend. Mostly temporary. That's why it's always Nathan that he goes to, probably because he's the only one that can keep up with him.

The blasting music surrounds the place. It's packed with people, but it's not too crowded like on Friday night. Brendan was already screaming on the dance floor. His head is banging non-stop. Clearly, he's already drunk. Nathan, on the other hand sitting on the bar counter. He knows he needs to stay sober in order for them to get home safely.

"Are you sure you don't need anything?" the bartender asked since Nathan only ordered a coke.

"No, thank you." the boy shakes his head. Besides, he's not in the mood for alcohol.

He had already texted Nadeem beforehand to inform him that he would accompany Brendan tonight. And the man approves without any comment. Not that he did not care, but he trusted his boy.

"Nathan?"

Nathan turns around almost immediately. He could heard a voice calling him before, but he thought it was only in his mind until the voice became more apparent.

"Greyson?"

The boy is standing there with a slight frown. Probably did not expect Nathan could be there. "Long time no see."

"I—" Nathan couldn't form his words properly. He stares at the boy. He's not even sure what to feel. Guilt or surprise?

"It's written all over your face, Nathan." Greyson took a seat close to him. "If you're gonna apologize for what happened... Don't."

Nathan sighs in relief. "But you deserve it."

Greyson just let out a small chuckle. "We were kind of buddies in the middle of heating."

Nathan couldn't help but laugh. He cannot deny that.

"And I have parts where I did wrong too." Greyson continues.

Nathan doesn't want to point it out. He knows he was not loud enough to tell Greyson he couldn't see him that way. He knows he almost makes Greyson a rebound. The fault is more on him.

"You look brighter. I guess you got the man already."

Nathan is curious to know if he ever mentions Nadeem to this boy. "I guess things got better."

Greyson nods. "I'm happy for you."

Nathan narrowed his eyes. To be honest, he couldn't read Greyson at all. He doesn't know what that boy feels. Is he really happy for him? Or he's being sarcastic? But he knows the boy is doing well. He looks more neat and great than before. He can only hope he meets what he longs for.

It was already past midnight when Nathan came home. So he's not surprised to see Nadeem still sitting in his study, reviewing some work. He knows that man always sleeps late. But he's surprised the boss can wake up early without complaint.

"Again, work?"

Nadeem moves his eyes from the computer screen before him to the person walking around the table. "Just a little more."

"That was your words yesterday." Nathan wraps his hands around the man's shoulders from behind and kisses his cheek. "And the day before."

Nadeem laugh. "Have fun tonight?"

Nathan growled softly. "Changing topic." He then moves to sit on Nadeem's lap without even asking for permission. "Brendan was having a blast. He was just sad he couldn't bring any girl home."

Nadeem laughs again. The fact that a grown-up boy is on his lap doesn't stop him from continuing his work. And Nathan didn't bother to stop him. He doesn't whine since he wants the man to accompany him. He knows he should respect the boundary.

"Should I go and wait for you on the bed?" Nathan whispered softly.

Nadeem takes a deep breath. "There's no need. I'm done anyway."

The boy's face lit up with a grin. "Finally."

No intimations happened that night. Just them cuddling, enjoying the presence of each other. There are a lot of things ahead. And they know for sure that they need their energy to survive.

Tbh, I don't know what I'm doing with this story anymore. Because there's nothing left to tell. After this it will be just how their relationship works and how they will start a normal relationship. I will try to make another chapter. Just to confirm that this story ended. So, I could focus on the other story.

Also, I've read about the little 'problem' about the name I chose. Nadeem is a great name and I never regret naming the character with that. So, please respect. You see something you don't like, there's always a close button. No need to be rude. We respect all races and religion.
