Chapter 22

Nathan breathed out of relief when he finished the last touch of the decoration. They've been working out since morning to ensure the venue is in place for the event that will be held soon. But unfortunately, it's been a long time since someone requested the cafe where he worked to handle such an event. And it's infrequent for an event planner to order a cafe to serve them. Usually, people prefer to request from hotels.

He looks at himself. He was wearing a waiter's uniform precisely like the one used in the hotel's restaurant. He started to feel suffocated by the bow tie on his neck. He never dresses nicely. But his boss has been so happy they've got to do such a big event. The payment offered is extensive.

"Do we have a protocol for this?" Brendan asked when he stood right by his friend's side.

Nathan was already standing. Waiting for the door to be open to guests and they will start serving. "I'm not sure. Just... Don't be yourself, I guess."

"What do you mean myself?" Brendan narrowed his eyes which replied with Nathan's shrugs. He knows how hype Brendan is. And he knows this is not a proper place for that attitude to be a leash.

"Thank God we have bonus payment for this," Brendan said.

"Yeah. Otherwise, I'll—"

Before Nathan could finish his sentence, the door was open, and an announcement was made about the guest's arrival. Brendan seems excited. While he feels uneasy, it seems like he saw some of those people. The more people arrive, the faster his heart beats.

"Bro, get to work!" Brendan whispered before disappearing.

Nathan starts to get to work. He grabbed a tray that was already filled with champagne and started walking.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Nadeem Valentino!"

That's what makes everything fuzzy. Nathan almost couldn't believe what he was hearing. He stops on his track. He didn't even move. He doesn't dare to turn around to look at the owner of the name. Claps and cheering already echoed in the room. They are making him sink more into where he is now.

"Waiter!"

Nathan turns around immediately. That's when he sees Nadeem. The man greeted some people.

"Waiter!"

Nathan snaps back again. He looked in the direction where someone called him and went there. It isn't good. He couldn't focus at all. He wants to run. He doesn't want to be in that place.

"Waiter!"

Another person called. He needs to serve whoever calls them. This is a big event for the cafe where he works. He doesn't know why he felt like everyone is mocking him—laughing and watching him making a fool of himself.

"Nathan!"

He looks at the man that stands by his side. He feels relieved when he sees his boss.

"Please focus. You look like you don't know what you were doing."

Nathan nods. To be honest, he almost had no idea what he was doing. He's too lost. Should he fake being sick so he could get away from that place? He just hopes nothing terrible will happen. When he starts getting on his duty, he feels like he's just being paranoid for nothing. That was until he bumped into someone.

"I'm sor—"

"Can you serve over there?"

Nathan just nods. It was Ariana. Nadeem's wife. He remembers her clearly from the restaurant. He knows he can't pretend as if nothing happened. The fact that Nadeem wears his ring and stays with his wife comes to his mind again. How could he compete with that woman?
