Into the river it went. All the evidence of the incident, every single last fingerprinted handle, every blood splattered leaf. Into the river. Gone. All that remains is the memory that will forever be imprinted in their minds. Clara was horrified with what they had done, she didn't realize what effect it would have on her life and how it would change the way she thought and the things she did. It changed the person she was altogether, and she didn't like the way it made her feel.
She thinks about what they did everyday and of all the things that made her do it. It could have ended so many other ways. Maybe, thought Clara, we could have confronted her, argued, and made up. Then I never would have to carry the burden, the terrible guilt.
Sometimes people would look at Clara and she would get this odd feeling in the pit of her stomach, maybe they knew. They knew what she had done, what they had done. Nobody ever found out of course, but that may have been the worst part.
