It's a sunny and beautiful morning in the kingdom of Silverthorn. The sparrows are flying and singing merrily. Squirrels hopped on their hind legs as they tried to reach for the best nut hanging from the highest branch. Not only the animals and creatures are awake. The many populations that lives in the kingdom are already wide awake and contributes to the daily hustle and bustle. Even the young step prince, Louise Walker, is already out in the courtyard, sword fighting with Humbert McBride, his best friend, a senior and the crown guard.
Louise is a slim boy with a light complexion and rosy cheeks. He has round, deep blue eyes and thick eyebrows. His thick, dark brown hair was kept at neck-length, with a big chunk lying onto his forehead, and messy strands stood up at the top of his head. His main set of clothing consisted of a maroon sleeveless undershirt, tucked back by a black belt with a silver buckle, and was topped by a dark blue, long-sleeved jacket. He wore baggy, dark gray trousers and dark brown boots with maroon accents. His accessories of choice are a pair of brown finger-less gloves.
Humbert is a generally fit, good-looking man with fair skin, a prominent jawline, and green eyes. His eyebrows are thick in nature and triangle-shaped, with his left eye being marked by a scar that he acquired after his many battles. He has thick, dirty blond hair that was swept messily to the left side of his head in his young adolescent years, and partly shaven behind his ears. He wears a silver armor of the crown guard adorned with gold and black accents, as well as a cape with the insignia of Silverthorn. Underneath, he wore a gray, long-sleeved undershirt and black trousers.
"GAHH!" Louise exclaimed as his sword fell with a loud clang.
"Dead." Humbert muttered nonchalantly. "You know at this rate, you'll be killed in no time. I wonder how you even made it as a squire."
"I can do a little bit of sword fighting." Louise pouted as he bent down to collect his fallen sword.
"Yeah, but you're too compassionate. I told you I wore my strongest armors. It won't clash my skin!"
"But scarring the innocent's wrong!"
"Depends on the intentions my man, intentions. What's your intention? To hurt me or to practice?"
"To hurry up and get this over with?"
Humbert rolled his eyes impatiently and crouch down alongside him. "Look, do you want to go up the ranks or not? Don't you want to be a knight in shining armor instead of a squire in...muddy armor?"
It's true. The two had been practicing since dawn. And since Louise fell down a lot more times than Humbert, his armor is so filled with mud, dirt and dew. However, before Louise can answer this question, a messenger came running at them, panting.
"Prince Louise, sir!" He called out.
"Oh, drop the formalities will ya? Just Louise is fine." Louise insisted modestly.
Humbert hits him hard in the guts. "Uh, it's the royal standards?" He explained as Louise pouted again.
"The King and Queen require your presence at the dinner table for breakfast, sir." The messenger continued.
"Oh goodie. I'm starving. Mind joining us, Humbert?" Louise asked as he brushed the dirt off his clothing.
"Nah, no thanks. I still had my morning lap. See ya later, Louise." Humbert waved before he began jogging towards the castle gate.
"Bye, Humbert!" Louise called out behind him.

Thea Walker, Silverthorn's Queen, clicked her utensils repeatedly into her silver platter, clearly bored. Thea had brown hair often tied into a bun with bangs on the side. She had deep blue eyes eyes, a light complexion, and a mole below her left eye. Thea wore her royal robes with red, gold, light gray and maroon accents.
Her husband, The King of silverthorn, Eric Walker, is a tall man with angular features, green eyes, and a goatee. He had dark brown, afro-textured hair that was styled into dreadlocks, with most of the locks tied back in a bun and with golden bands on the ends. Additionally, he wore a red and gold patterned tunic, as well as a black cape and silver armor in battle. He proudly wore the crown of Silverthorn on his head.
"Bored?" Eric chuckled.
"Duh," Thea rolls her eyes impatiently. "How long do you think until the boy arrives?"
"Perhaps he's showering?"
"I'm starving...." Thea groaned. "Just one strawberry tart, please?"
"No, Thea. I have made exception for the tea but not for the tart. This is-"
"The royal standards, yeah, yeah."
"Though you have exceeded your young times, you still have a part of your childish soul in you."
Thea giggled. "I suppose so. I could be a bit childish at times. Which is why, you should've chosen someone even more mature than me. Someone who'll serve as a better queen."
"No, Thea." Eric put a comforting hand on Thea's. "I can see the leadership skills in you. Besides, I do love you. I really do."
The two stared at each other's eyes. Each getting lost in each others dilating pupils. As their entwined hands are wrapped tighter and tighter, they both leaned towards the other. Getting closer and closer by the second. Their eyes began to close and...
BANG
"Sorry I'm late. Did I-"
Louis, who just burst into the dining hall without even knocking on the door, stopped dead in his tracks. Both his parents seem to realize the presence of a third person in the room and flicked their eyes wide open immediately though still leaning towards each other. The royal family stay frozen shock in their tracks for about a minute before recomposing one self.
"S-sorry. Did I- did I interrupt something?" Louis apologized awkwardly as he edged towards the door.
"No, no, no! Come in, come in. We've been waiting for you actually." Thea pulled back a nearby chair for Louis to sit.
"O-okay." Louis awkwardly walked towards the seat beside her mother.
"Now can we eat, Eric?" Thea eyed Eric impatiently.
"Yes, we shall."
"Finally. Took you long enough." Thea rubbed her hands together and began having a bit of everything on her plate.
"Still not getting the hang of knocking?" Eric chuckled as he grabbed his own serving of breakfast. "I mean it's been a year you know."
"Y-yeah. Too used to it back home." Louis rubbed the back of his head, ashamed. "But I am getting a bit of control over myself...kinda."
"Just like his father." Thea muttered as she shakes her head.
"Anyways, you do remember what day today is right?" Eric asks.
"Of course. Aunt Vania's visit, right?" Louise guessed as he sips his cup of tea.
"Correct. She said she has some...new findings during her last expedition and require your help." Eric explained.
"Oh, alright. Sure. Totally beats sword fighting session with Humbert."
Thea shots him a silent glare. "Louise, you're a squire and the crown prince. I expect you to do your duties seriously. For squires will soon evolve to be a gallant knight and knight to crown guard. The most trusted of The King's mens. And same goes for princes. Princes will soon evolve to be a King. And during that time, I implore you to do your duties seriously."
"I am doing it seriously. I'm just...too soft to upgrade. You know?" Louise muttered.
"You'll soon get the hang of it, Louise." Eric pats Louise's shoulder comfortingly. "Now let's finish our meal quickly and get ready for Ms. Vania's visit.
As he munched on his breakfast slowly, a sudden thought struck his mind. As far as he knew, his aunt always brought him countless of questionable things either for his birthday or for them to inspect together. From the venomous fangs of an ancient snake, a vial of a contagious virus bound to cause a pandemic on the kingdom and even a seemingly safe - but still suspicious - golden bracelet of the ancient pharaohs and incas. After recalling the set of weird "gifts" his aunt had given him in the past, what other questionable artifact has she got in store for him?
