"Hey, Louise. Are you still awake?" Lycia whispers as she prodded her finger on Louise's arm. "Uh, I'm whispering so I don't wake you and Cyane but if you're awake then I thought maybe-"
"I'm awake." Louise replied as he turn around to face Lycia.
"Oh good. What are you doing?"
"Well, I was trying to sleep but I guess not anymore." Louise says nonchalantly as he edged over to the boat's side and washes his face.
"Sorry." Lycia apologizes as she edged towards the boat's edge too beside Louise. "It's just so boring to wake up in the middle of the night from a recent concussion and do nothing at all."
Louise chuckles before putting on his serious face. "Speaking of concussion, how're you feeling? Better?"
"Uhm, a bit cold to be honest. I think I got a cold when I fell into the water. I mean the water is cold, and now the atmosphere is also cold, and-" Lycia stopped dead in her tracks as she saw Louise suddenly taking off his jacket, revealing his sleeveless undershirt. "What are you doing?"
"Giving you my jacket so you'll feel warmer, duh." Louise says as he handed Lycia his jacket.
"Wh-what?! No! You know you don't have to. Just keep it to yourself. It's a chilly weather you know." Lycia tried to reason with him as she pushed his offerings back.
"That's why I'm giving it to you. Because the weather is chilly."
"But what'll keep you warm then? At least I'm wearing a long sleeved attire. But won't you freeze to death in your sleeveless undershirt?"
"I won't, I promise I won't. I can keep myself warm."
"You know you don't have to do this."
"I know. But I want to do this. Let's just say it's my way for getting even. I mean you and Cyane spared me when I suppose the other magical creatures will not."
"They surely won't. They'll definitely kill you on first sight!"
"So, thank you for that. You do know actions speak louder than words, right?"
Lycia opened her mouth to reason with him but nothing came out. Half happy and half annoyed, Lycia decided to accept Louise's offering with a subtle pout. "I suppose I can't reason with you now so...thanks."
Louise returned her thanks with a warm smile. "You're welcome."
His gaze tore away from Lycia and towards the starry night. The sky is a beautiful mix of purple, blue and black, dotted with white specks here and there. The brightness and size of these specks vary since each one are unique. Some are big and sparkly, some are big but dim, some are small but sparkly and another is small and rather dim. Using his sharp eyes and imaginations, Louise connected some of the dots to create constellations. He recognized the popular, identified ones. But he also managed to find some goofy ones here and there.
"What's so funny?" Lycia interrupted his thoughts as she noticed Louise giggling.
"Nothing. Well, you did say earlier that you're bored, right?"
"Very."
"Well why don't we do a little stargazing. I mean just look at them. They're all so bright and sparkly and beautiful and unique!"
"Yeah, they are beautiful." Lycia sigh in awe as her eyes too locked into the night sky.
"I still can't believe I'm in Magicis Regnum, the fabled magic realm that I thought isn't real. But lo and behold, I'm standing on it's very ground and befriended a sorceress and a siren. You know, even though we're kind of in a totally different world the sky is still the same. No less beautiful and charming than the usual."
"That's...poetic, Louise." Lycia hesitated as she chose the correct words to describe it.
Louise began to blush and an idea suddenly pops into his head. Why don't he show her the goofy constellations he found earlier? Talking about official constellations and their backstories will work too but wouldn't it be funny if he suddenly points towards the sky and said something about a giant soup ladle? Speaking of soup ladles....
"Look you can see the great soup ladle!" Louise suddenly points at the sky with his index.
"The what?!" Lycia's eyes darted back and forth from the sky to Louise in confusion and surprise.
"The set of stars right there. The five stars with the three and then the other two." Louise's index moves here and there as if he's drawing an imaginary soup ladle.
"Oh yeah!" Lycia's mind clicks and she too began to giggle.
"Just put them all together and schwoop! Soup ladle. Don't you have, uh, constellations in the magic realm?"
"Yeah, we do. But we don't look at those stars and see a big spoon."
"So, what do you see?" Louise edged closer to her in interest and anticipation.
"Garland The Annihilator." Lycia answered nonchalantly.
Louise's mind goes blank at the answer. Well, that's certainly a lot less pizzaz than what he anticipated. So he just replied with a short, "uh, neat." His eyes then darted all around the night sky to look for some more goofy constellations. "Uh and what about that over there? We call that the feisty crab! See the big old claws" Louise did his best crab impression by clicking his tongue too for the sounds.
"Well for me, those are Garland's Fists of Revolution. The left one is a fist of vengeance and the right one is the fist of revenge." Lycia explained while raising both her fists.
Louise clicked his tongue again in slight disappointment. "Okay, uh, and, uh, sorry there's a difference between vengeance and revenge?"
"Oh yes, the distinction is really Garland's speciality."
Louise once again scouts the night sky for some more constellations that he dearly hope is not about Garland. "Okay, well, uh, what about that one? The one that looks like a sled. We call it..the sled. and it's clearly just a sled."
"Nope, it's Garland's Blade of Sundering."
"The smiling bunny?"
"Garland's Bandolier of Skulls."
"The two fish who are friends?"
"Garland's Flail of Poisoned Thorns."
"Okay, I'm sensing that Garland kind of owns the night sky." Louise summarize, getting a bit exasperated by this point. "But what about those two over there? The mama badger and the baby badger. Come on they're adorable!"
"Oh yeah, you're right. That's not Garland."
"Yes!" Louis exclaimed in excitement. Finally, something that's not Garland or related to him. "What is it then?"
"It's a pile of Garland's broken enemies. See, they're clearly being crushed beneath Garland's boot. We do call it his merciless boot of crushing-" Never mind, scratch that.
"Yeah, yeah, okay. No, yeah, that makes sense." Louise takes a deep breath to recompose his patience. "Alright, let's try something totally different. What about that? The brightest star in the sky. A single point of light. We call it the south star. Humans used it to navigate you know, to find their way in the endless darkness of the night."
"Um...." Lycia hesitated.
"Alright just tell me." Louise sighed, exasperated.
"That's Garland's Furnace of Souls where Garland sends the spirit of his enemies to burn for all eternity-"
"Okay, that's enough stargazing for tonight." Louise scrambled back to his sleeping position.
"We do also use it to navigate!"
