"Who's in for some fireside stories?!" Cyane eyed the group excitedly, looking for some approval.
"Why not?" Lycia shrug.
"I could use some entertainment." Louise nodded in agreement and passed some snacks to the group.
"Wonderful! I've got a good story that'll suit the moods tonight. The myth of the werewolves!"
"Bah! I've heard that folklore hundreds of times. Can we change?" Lycia huffed some locks of hair out of her eyes.
"You have heard it billions of times. Louise haven't yet, right kiddo?"
"Yep, never heard of it. But if you are bored, then I guess we can change-"
"No, no, no, it's fine. I can help Cyane tell the story."
"Ooh, why the change of heart, princess?" Cyane wiggles her eyebrows weirdly as she scoots closer to her best friend.
"Oh stop that weird eyebrow thing and get this over with already." Lycia huffed.
"Alright, alright. So, a long, long time ago, there's this one guy who's super strong and all. He really likes to show off his strength, see? And he really hates it when there's a new competitor in town. Whenever someone's rumored to be stronger than him, he immediately challenges the other guy to proves the rumors wrong."
"Mhm. Always want to be first place that guy is. And for a long while he managed to protect his title. That is until a humble young man finally defeats him at his own game. Unable to accept defeat, they went on for many, many more battles after that, most of which are won by the humble man."
"Outraged that his title is snatched off him so easily, he stormed into this exact forest. It was a night of full moon when he reached the temple. As he seated himself in it's cold floor, he spotted a fallen star and began to wish. He wished with all his might to be given the strength of the mighty wolf."
"Did his wish got granted?" Louise asks.
"Mhm. He turns into an invincible werewolf, half human, half wolf. And on that very night of the full moon, he directed his anger at the humble newcomer and tear him to shreds. But he's not satisfied yet. He also directed his anger and fury towards his village in hopes of proving to the people that he's stronger than all of them. In his killing spree he even insults the wish granting stars, going on and on about how he could easily flicker them off with his almighty roar."
"The stars are upset and in the wake of this new beast, the sent werewolf hunters along. Some gifted children born during the full moon are gifted with this power to defeat the beast. The power to force him to bow down from his almighty pedestal and flickers back to reality. That high and mighty old man is already dead but he manages to pass on his powers to some more people like him and this forest is known to be the werewolves natural habitat. But of course, this is just a silly myth so don't fret about it."
"One, what an ungrateful brute that guy is. Second, are you sure this is all a myth?"
"I guess? Well, not pretty sure actually. No one lives around here. They're all scared about these werewolves haunting them."
Louise gulped. "And you're not scared?"
"A little, yes. But I'm sure we'll be fine. If there are any, we can just thwart them off."
"Why do we have to come during the full moon!" Louise groaned.
"Because the ritual won't happen if it's not during a lunar eclipse. Now come on, let's hit the sacks. I'm sleepy."
~~~
Rustle...rustle....
"Huh? Whazzat??" Louise murmured sleepily. He wiped his eyes a couple of times before readjusting to the dark. Suddenly, his ears pricked up at another soft rustling in the background. "Wha- who's that??"
