On a beautiful Saturday morning, I decided to take my three year old daughter, Jenna, to the local park for her to have some fun. While I sat and watched her play, I noticed a little boy had joined her. They were laughing and smiling together. I couldn't help but look for who this boys mom must be because I could tell they would be friends for a while.
Just then, a woman walked up to me and sat down next to me on the bench. I smiled at her and she did back to me.
"Is that your daughter?"
She asked sweetly pointing to Jenna.
"Yes it is, is that your son playing with her." She nodded. "May I ask what his name is?" I asked. "His name is Matthew and hers?" She talked so sweetly and her eyes smiled even when she talked. I could tell her son will grow to be a great man. "Jenna." My little Jenna. I turned my head towards the kids again just to make sure they were alright. She did the same. "I'm Laura by the way." She stuck out her hand and I shook it. "Mary. do you have any other kids?" I asked. "Yes you see the girl throwing the softball? That's my daughter Kristen she's 8, the boy she is throwing it to or at is my oldest son Dylan he's 12 and then the one over there on the swings is my other son Ryan. He's 5." I looked at them all. They all kind of looked alike except for Dylan who was the only one with dark brown hair while the others had a more dirty blonde.
I turned my attention back to my kid and realized she started crying. I ran over as fast as I could. "What's wrong baby?" I asked. At times like these, a mom knows you have to stay calm for your kid but inside you're like a volcano exploding. "I scraped my knee!" She cried pointing to her knee. All of the sudden I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was the little boy Matt. He was holding out a band aid. "Here. I got this." He scooted in underneath me and applied the band aid perfectly to Jenna's knee.
He helped her up and hugged her telling her everything would be alright.
And that was how it all started.
