The mood was less than upbeat. Nick was sulking over her quickly dwindling friendship with Darlene, having not spoken to her in two full days. The girl could only imagine what was going through Jeremy's head. Lack of weed, she thought, nearly cracking a smile. She twirled the pen in her hand, absentmindedly marking her thumb with random ink blots.

"Hey," Jeremy huffed out, tearing his eyes from the workbook, "what's up with you?" Nick's eyes shot up, her head and body unmoving. She crossed her brows, watching as Jeremy did the same if only to bother her.

She rolled her eyes immediately, sighing in response. "My personal woes are none of your business." Nick refused the eye contact Jeremy begged to hold.

"Fine, I'll tell you my problems." The boy began, earning an exasperated groan from Nick. "Vicki showed up here a few days ago. I think she was high."

"I seriously don't want to hear about her."

"She kept getting really mad about everything. Even the sunlight was bothering her." Nick could feel her heart sink past her stomach. But that was just the start of it. "She kept saying her gums hurt and she wouldn't let me hug her, it was weird."

"Uh, I'm gonna go use the bathroom. Just—" The sick feeling in Nick's stomach cut her off, in fear if she said any more, she'd spill her guts. She kicked the door shut behind herself, kneeling over the toilet and letting it all out.

"Are you seriously blowing chunks in my bathroom?" Jeremy's voice sounded humorous through the door but it only made her sicker.

This girl. Someone Nick had known for thirteen years, was dead. Not officially, but so much worse. She was undead. With Stefan, they were strangers. She didn't grow up around him. But Vicky...

Vicky used to babysit her. Help her with her homework, not that she appreciated the gestures. It's weirder when it's someone you know. "Would you prefer I do it on your pillow?" Nick snarked, emerging from the bathroom and brushing past Jeremy harshly.
